High-Schooler Told to Cover Up for Exposing Her Shoulder
Yahoo!News ^ | January 29, 2015 | Rachel Bertsche

When 16-year-old Gabi Finlayson went to Paris with her mother and brother in December, she only bought one thing: a light pink dress with lace overlay that fell just below the knee. She planned to wear it to an upcoming high school dance. “I loved it,” she tells Yahoo Parenting. “It reminded me of Audrey Hepburn. It seemed like a classic dress I could wear forever.”

So on Saturday night, the Utah high school junior couldn’t wait to show up at the dance. “Being a 16-year-old girl, it’s hard to find something that makes you feel pretty and when you do, you want to share it,” she says. But instead of feeling like the belle of the ball, Finlayson ended up feeling shamed and embarrassed, she says, when she was asked to cover up her bare shoulders.

Her dress looks nice. Whoever told her to cover up is a bitch...probably fat too.

Way back when, we wore strapless dresses. I think she looks beautiful.

This kid is going to go through life just looking for a grievance to moan about. I have a tiny bit of sympathy because my daughter also got told to wear a shawl or sweater with a sleeveless dress. But she did as told and had a great time. This one, on the other hand, seems to have a hovering mama and an absentee dad. Get over it, child.

She looks absolutely stunning! The dress is very conservative (IMO). It is below the knee and fits her wonderfully. Why would bare arms be such an issue?

It's not just Yahoo that is a bunch of totalitarian leftists, I don't think there is a search engine or major site like them that is any different.

Tis unfortunate.........

Not specifically identified, just identified as a woman and the girl went back to her car to get a coat to wear for the rest of the evening. It is a modest dress and one wonders about the identity and characteristics of the person who asked her to cover up; maybe there will be other articles.

Her dress met the ‘dress code’. Sue the bitch and the school!

Sorry...but this headline...and even the presence of this article...is totally culturally off-kilter.

What do I mean?

Well, don't we actually need gobs of headlines asking "Where are the administrators & educators who FAIL to tell THOUSANDS of students -- or at least mention to their parents -- the need for them TO cover up?"

I don’t understand this. The dress is very tasteful and modest, and the young lady does it justice.

I’m 64 this year, and I went to Catholic schools until I went to college (thus, the first public school I ever went to was when I went to college). So, I started high school in 1965.

I’m telling you, this dress would have passed muster with our Jesuits and the nuns back when I was in high school.

You should read the comments. Americans are still Americans.

They are fed up.

Leftist sites are starting to turn into satire rags only worthy of reading for a good laugh.

Let the liberals ruin everything. They ruined healthcare, they are about to ruin colleges. The only ones bad off will be the leftists. Their lives cannot exist without someone telling them what to do, what to buy, what to read, what to live.

Look at the rest of the photo, although I admit she is so attractive that the eye immediately goes to her.

The floor is very expensive and in good taste.

Rugs, not wall to wall crap. Not cheap.

The furniture is from another generation and looks like high quality, as do the wall units.

I suspect some class envy might be involved.

As for the dress and the girl; GORGEOUS!

Me thinks some old cow was jealous of the pretty young shoulders. The young lady is pretty and poised.

12 years of Catholic school for me as well and yes... this dress would have passed standards in the 80’s. It is timeless and classic in style.
