Wildlife experts say the number of dogs attacked by wolves is up
TOWN OF BREED, Wis. -
Wildlife experts say wolves have killed or seriously injured six dogs in Wisconsin this month.
That's double the highest number for January in recent years. Two dogs have been killed in Oconto County.
Department of Natural Resources wildlife supervisor Jeff Pritzl says the spike in incidents doesn't necessarily reflect any changes wolf population or behavior. Pritzl told WLUK-TV that more people are out hunting coyotes, bobcats, and rabbits with their dogs because of the milder winter.
Pritzl said the peak time for wolf-related incidents is late summer and early fall. He said most of the activity is usually in the northwest part of the state.
There's been a wolf hunt in the past three years, however the wolf has now been relisted as an endangered species.
Maybe we should put dogs on the endangered list
More wolves = more wolf attacks.

At that time there were two known packs in Douglas County, the northwest most county in the state and it was assumed they had come across from Minnesota once federally protected.
if there are wolves in Oconto County, they've either progressed tremendously in the last 40 years or packs (if there were any) have come down from the UP.
Although there is a season and very minimal bag limit numbers, I can guarantee you that wolves in my area are on the “endangered” list all the time. (Its shoot, shovel and shut up). The deer population has almost completely disappeared in central Wisconsin. One wolf will eat a deer every 17 days. If there are multiple packs of wolves in the area (4 in the area where I live) and there are from 5-9 wolves in a pack, that’s one hell of a lot of dead deer over one years period. Once again we can blame the Federal gubmint idiots for introducing wolves where they were not needed. It may take some time to oncemore remove or eliminate the wolves but rest assured, its a work in progress.

Varmint season in VA is 7/24/365. Wolves are varmint? So when is varmint season in WI?

Time to get a Caucasian mountain dog.
Gut shoot them with FMJ bullets out of a varmint rifle. They will die miles away with nothing to trace them back to you.
The Feds are planning to release Mexican wolves in Cochise County AZ this month. AZ Is suing the Feds over this. It’s been a total disaster for the New Mexico county to our east that has been dealing with this issue. $380,000 of loss in one year to the cattle industry, several ranches out of business. Total insanity.

Aside from wolves, you can varmint hunt all you want in Wisconsin. I’ve got coyotes out my back yard (which are nasty assed things)...and any time I see one, I’m able to shoot and kill them. Wolves are making a mess of the northern deer hunt, killing dogs and on occasion, they kill some livestock. Pretty sure farmers shoot the things regardless of whether the feds or DNR want them to. We’ve had sightings near us in southeastern Wisconsin. If I saw one in my back yard, I’d shoot it, drag it out into the middle of nowhere and feel no remorse.
When Mr. GG2 lived in Alaska he had an acquaintance who owned two of those bear dogs. The mother had actually saved his life by taking on a Grizzly that attacked him in his backyard. The dog was horribly scarred but survived it. I’m sure they could rip up a wolf with no problem.
Well if they start predating on the dead bodies of these illegals that don’t make it they will develop a taste for humans. Then you won’t be able to let your kid stand at the bus stop.
Yea if I lived out in AK then I might get one for security.
They seem great protection dogs and it does not surprise me it would go after a grizzly.
Latest on Wolf vs Dog attacks in WI. (I surprised a wolf in my front driveway last winter, and I live in a “city”. Rural, but a city nonetheless. I see coyotes all the time.)

My husband no longer hunts in Florence County because the wolves have depleted the deer there.
