Free speech, the rights of parents, the right to preach and practise one’s religion and the worn and tattered fibers of normative decency were all deeply damaged. With the legalization of same-sex “marriage” what had been aberrant only a few years earlier became entrenched as a legal right, and what had been a normal and natural view of sexuality had been reduced to the retrograde thinking of hate crime dinosaurs.

Totalitarianism is the denial of unique and distinctive human differences.
Free societies celebrate those differences. Despots seek to forbid them.
Same Sex Marriage is an assault upon human nature and the concept of the family. Its also an attack on human freedom.
Once we legitimized it, we lost the right to live by our values and celebrate the beautiful and true in human life.
We hardly notice what has happened because after all, we tend to be live and let live people. The enemies of the West have different ideas and they’re not going to stop with taking us all down into the cultural and moral sewer.
Canada stands as a stark warning to us all.
I’m so glad I was not born 20 or 30 years after the date I was actually born. This way, I won’t live long enough to really suffer the consequences of the rise of totalitarianism.

Same sex marriage has increased abortions and drug abuse? That’s stretching a bit far. If opponents of same sex marriage want to make a difference, they need to come up with actual facts and not try to blame everything from abortions to global warming on same sex marriage. You are the second poster on this thread to use that phrase. Unfortunately, the homosexuals are not a group of "live and let live" people. They insist that not only must we recognize their relationships, we must approve. Not only approve; but, celebrate who they are and what they do.
If they were willing to "live and let live"; then, the baker who refused to bake a cake celebrating "gay marriage", and who offered names of other bakers who would be willing to bake the cake; that baker would not be involved in a lawsuit at this moment. Tolerance is a one-way street for these bullies.
The banal evil of same sex marriage is when a single mother gives up a baby for adoption to a two parent family so the kid has a mother and father and it goes to one with two mothers.

The march to madness was long and over time there were more and more truths about which we could not speak. In public spaces conservatives had to live increasingly within their own minds, and for anybody, alone in your mind can be a dangerous place. In our Walter Mitty imaginations most of us had ...thought of a glorious last stand that we would make if push ever came to shove.... our personal Calvary would be heroic and unflinching. But the sad truth is that most of us die by the inch rather than the sword, and this we knew in our heart of hearts, and so many of us came to despise ourselves and give up. The legalization of same-sex “marriage” in Canada has decimated the social conservative movement.
Truly, that passage was not well explained. It's a complicated issue; let me try to round up a few ideas:
1) After same-sex marriage was legalized in the Netherlands, the rate of heterosexual marriage declined markedly. Marriage and particularly natural parenthood had been "officially" redefined, devalued, and desexualized.
2) The pernicious sweep of "no-fault" divorce from the 70s-80s onward "officially" removed moral considerations from marriage and parenthood. This legal fad more than perhaps any other has contributed to the gay lobby's belief that marriage is a "right" without the conventional restrictions that gays do not practice to the same extent that heterosexuals do, such as the expectation of faithfulness to the one person to whom one is married.
3) When divorce between the biological parents of children became more commonplace, accompanied by a rise in petitions for government to allow adoptions by single persons and eventually by gay and lesbian persons, an industry sprang up to "help" all these persons become divorced from biology — attorneys, counselors, divorce accountants, therapists, educational consultants, authors — many leftists seized these opportunities and, like the Global Warmists, do not want to lose their lucrative hustles.
4) The divorce industry creates "winners" and "losers" in inverse or in perverse relationship to the care of children. If one parent gave up working to care for the children in marriage, the other parent is seen as more financially capable of caring for the children at divorce. If one parent tried to impart traditional marital values such as fidelity or religious observance within the marriage, that parent would run the risk of losing custody at divorce, being characterized as "bigoted", "hateful" or "discriminatory."
5) Awards of child support for anyone but the very wealthy are typicallly substantially less than half of the actual cost of raising the child; yet, with the cost of now running two households, they are onerous also to the one paying the support — a lose-lose proposition frightening many from the prospect of marrying at all, or bringing a child into the world if pregnant.
When marriage is legally divorced from the onset of sexual activity and from morality itself, and when marriage and childbearing are legally divorced from fidelity, economic support for caretaking of children and from permanence, society experiences a lowering of expectations and morale, and even a desperation at the perceived lack of opportunity to live in a loving family with children. It is no surprise that substance abuse would accompany these conditions, as it did in the Soviet Union after their abolition of religion; however, I agree with you that the cause-and-effect cannot be perfectly laid at the door of the onset of gay marriage legalization alone.

It also breaks down the influence of Christian or conservative parents on their children. The kids are more skeptical of their parents since their conservative or Christian parents hold “illegal” attitudes that have been outlawed by society and not tolerated in their schools. They start to see their parent as being “haters”. I work with church kids and have seen this happen in CA.
Homosexual “marriage” is about pure Marxism and the elimination of Truth and Natural Laws and Christian Ethics from the public square and the minds of the future. (Marxism—destroy all Traditions and Wisdom of the Ages for their irrational “utopia” of total slavery)..
Reason (modern science) was only possible with a Christian Worldview-—recognization of Natural Law——all homosexuality is perversion in nature—denial of Laws of Nature and nature’s God (Designer)....it is the removal of Common Sense and identity in human beings and all moral religions——making Lies into truth (which is irrational emotions only).
This removal of Reason and Truth and Faith is Marxism and Fascism-—imposing a worldview on children using indoctrination forcing irrational, identity denial-—removing that essential human characteristic (truth) Male or Female for biological lies.
Marxists have to destroy identity in children-—create an artificial, unnatural world so children are so dumb and ignorant of Laws of Nature they believe “Snow is Black” (Fichte 1810) and Vice is Virtue to collapse civil society for irrational tribal mindsets (serfdom/slavery)-—they can’t understand Natural Laws (which created the Age of Reason and US Constitution and OUR legal system).
For total slavery, Marxists have to destroy the Constitution. Taking Truth and Reason out of our “Justice” (virtue) System, (which homosexual anything does) destroys Rule of Law. It is fascist Rule of Man.
I agree. The "self-esteem" movement in schools is another tenet of Marxism aimed at eliminating parental authority, religion and respect for traditional values.
