KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Reuters) - President Barack Obama promoted a proposal to offer two years of free community college tuition to students on Friday but the plan and its $60 billion pricetag over 10 years immediately faced skepticism from Republican lawmakers.

Obama floated the education idea on the third and final day of a tour to promote agenda items being prepared for his Jan. 20 State of the Union address, a speech that will be his first to the U.S. Congress since Republicans won the Senate in November elections.

If this goes through - anyone graduating (if they graduate) from it won’t be hired by corporations or any other that wants serious college graduates...

It will be rip full of socialist professors and may be a lead in for future federal employment...looks like an indoctrination plan to me...

Perhaps the $60B could be pulled from EBT funds. Simply reduce EBT outlays by $60B and no new appropriations required. All the EBT recipients will be too busy studying and rushing to classes to worry about whether or not they have enough funds to pay for their Cheetos anyway.

So does Georgia - with the right grades. He’s not talking about ‘grades’ he’s talking about his voters.

Just watch. Here’s my prediction. The Republicans are going to impose higher Federal Gas Taxes to fund this AND their capitulation immigration reform.

Let’s see if Obama tries to do this by decree to if Congress “refuses to act”.

From the nazi party planks.

>>The state is to be responsible for a fundamental reconstruction of our whole national education program, to enable every capable and industrious German to obtain higher education and subsequently introduction into leading positions. The plans of instruction of all educational institutions are to conform with the experiences of practical life. The comprehension of the concept of the State must be striven for by the school [Staatsbürgerkunde] as early as the beginning of understanding. We demand the education at the expense of the State of outstanding intellectually gifted children of poor parents without consideration of position or profession.<<

No word yet as to how this is to be paid for at a national level

I took a couple of government financed “free” online classes at the unemployment center. The software was buggy and seldom worked. The questions and answers had obviously been translated into English, probably by the Chinese. Much of the material made no sense and often it was impossible to determine what had been asked or even guess at what the multiple choice answers meant. This is probably what much of the material would look like. No for-profit outfit could get away with this level of negligence and neglect.

Yep, Onama wants to institutionalize his radical base and “edumacate” the illegal alien masses into asses.

Just think of it! All those former Acorn employees with federally guaranteed education jobs, and affordable health care to boot!

Alawahoo Wackybar!

The lottery is used only to fund education. it has more money than is claimed by students for college. the new program will use those funds.

Obama came and attempted to capture the program by making it subject to federal guide lined/regulation

Obama is a menace to America

Tennessee's lottery pays for community college education

In other words, math-stupid people are paying for OTHER PEOPLE to take classes in math and other subjects.

Sounds appropriate.

I suppose his target market is the same crowd that are catalogued by him and Michelle as servants...people who work at Target, park cars etc etc....

I'd guess that Michelle will be involved to serve the students their free lunch.

There is plenty of aid for the very poor....so this must be for the not really, really poor folks.

I live in TN and I don't see it either why it should be paid for at a national level, especially since the TN lottery pays for it. Source

These STOTU laundry list items never materialize. It is just more Administration/MSM propaganda to make it seem that Obama is setting the agenda and is relevant.

I don't know why anyone bothers to take this seriously.

There are many things to consider with this proposal, and I'm sure Obama has not fully considered them:

1. Will everyone who wants to go to Community College be accepted? If so, are they prepared for the increase in students?
2. With free tuition at Community Colleges, how many students will State Colleges and Universities lose (for the freshman and sophomore years). Students can obtain an associates degree for free, and then transfer to a State college or university (or even a private university)
3. This is federalizing the State Community College system. Will students from one state be allowed to attend community college in another for free? If so, a student can move to another state, go to community college for free, establish residency, and then transfer to a state college of university and receive in-state tuition.
