Is the fix in? Has the establishment GOP already chosen the Republican nominee?

It is truly amazing is how hostile the leadership of the Republican Party is to the people who actually make up the Republican Party.

I can tell you first hand that the establishment GOP types dislike the libertarian/conservative coalition aka The Tea Party at least as much as the Democrats do. Probably more.

Why? Because the libertarian/conservative coalition is a real threat to their power. Do you honestly think that the GOP as it is currently constituted wants to reduce the size of government? Not a chance. A d this is why the party has been moving since 2012 to mitigate the influence of average people. Many folks who have “woken up” since Mitt Romney’s defeat may not know of the chicanery at the 2012 convention. The grass roots, primarily represented by Ron Paul and his delegates, were essentially shut out in a very ugly fashion. And this was just the beginning

The Ron Paul people in the states outwitted the establishment people in the primary process to a large degree in 2012. They got small government people elected to party positions long controlled by party hacks. As such the big shot hacks in DC have sought to systematically change the nomination and primary process to mitigate the small government wing in 2016.

The GOP believes that the “rank and file” will vote for their candidate no matter what. That they can get Bush, Christie, or Romney (Romney!) the nomination and that the people will fall in line and shut up because they so fear another Democrat in the White House. It’s a deeply cynical play. It is as obvious as it is callous. But this strategy has one huge flaw.

The Establishment wants to make the primary process an enjoyable technicality, as the conventions have become.

As much as the establishment hates conservatives, they still can only fight them so long.

Actually the primary elections are just a sham and no one actually turns out to vote in them, the MSM and Fox News too are in on this. If you thought that you were going to the polls on election day, it was just a figment of your imagination — and the GOB-E nominates their candidate without any popular votes. \Sarcasm to ‘nominee already selected’ folks.

There is a reason it is called a political party and there is no mandate for the Republicans beholden to the RNC to turn over a leadership position to anyone who has not been faithful - I know many of us at FR would prefer they bend to our will but it occurred to me that anyone in power will not easily let go.

If they have a preference then we will know soon enough when they put their money behind that person, and then work together with the democrat opposition to destroy the challengers.

We who are conservative but not liberally Republican may not appreciate the power wielded by the RNC (or the DNC for that matter), but we need to work to build up a fraction to challenge within the two party system - much as Chicago has in the DNC, or Clinton-wing, or the Kerry fractions which make up the three competing DNC fractions.

The TEA fraction is in it's 10th year and by time it is 20-25 years old it will have ascended to the presidency. We must be patient and preserve.

It is time for a new conservative party. If only Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Scott Walker, Tim Scott, Sarah Palin, and a few dozen other conservatives would break off and form a new party. If 70-100 GOP Congressmen joined them along with a dozen governors and hundreds of state and local elected officials. The new conservative party might not be competitive at the presidential level in 2016, but like the Republicans of the 1850’s could be competitive by 2020. Who knows, if enough elected officials defected and supported by the majority of the rank & file member as well as conservative independents, the new party could be competitive in 2016. I suspect the GOP, given that it is a mirror of the Democrat Party, would be inconsequential within 2 election cycles.

It is like pro wrestling.

Except that the pro wrestlers are more talented, in better shape, and way way more intelligent.

Yes, they're actively changing the rules in all the states.

No fix, but the meat grinders are ready and active.

We need to let them run. They will rise or fall on their own positions and merit and character. Let it be a real competition this time without all the high pressure strategy phony baloney trying to muscle candidates out before voters have had a chance to hear them.

We also need a one day nationwide primary vote where every state has an equal say. I am sick of being robbed by the states that go before me. That or there needs to be a lottery each time for who goes first, so that it is not the same states having more pull than other states. Back when travel was by horse and communication was very slow traveling, the current system made some sense. Now it does not.

No, but they should. Some states have "open primaries" where RATs and the precious "clueless independents" can help you choose the RINO of their choice.

==========================================================

Lot of “rank and file” right here at good ol FR.

You are not conservatives.

You are party over principle hacks.

How's that working out for you?
