Remember When Communism Was All the Rage?

Happy Birthday to the Soviet Union! In 1922, in post-revolutionary Russia, a bunch of commies got together and officially established the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine and the Transcaucasian Federation called a meeting, and created the world’s first union based on Marxist Socialism… It shaped up to be such a rousing success, Joseph Stalin celebrated by killing 50 million fellow countrymen.

During the Russian Revolution of 1917 the Bolsheviks managed to win over the hearts and minds of their fellow commie forces using their message of Hope and Change; which lead to a pretty clear direction for the country after that pesky Czar (and his family) were out of the picture. Vladimir Lenin dominated the scene, and quickly became the “father” of Soviet style oppression communism. Work, bread, and shelter-for-everyone was the main thrust of Lenin’s communist promises… Sure, no guns, private property, free speech, individual responsibility, or basic access to earned prosperity; but who really needs all that when you have a group of Bolsheviks (living in pretty fancy homes near the Kremlin) telling you how to live your life?

In the newly formed worker’s paradise (where everyone labored, but only politicians got rich) all levels of government were controlled by the Communist Party, and the Party’s politburo. Industry was owned not by the proprietors, workers, or managers; but by those altruistic folks who hung out with Joseph, Vlad, and other power-addicted commies in Moscow. (Well… Technically it was owned by “the people”. But, let’s face it: The only guys spending the money were the guys who worked at the Kremlin.) Tellingly, this soon-to-be super power didn’t produce much of value. Their sedans, cigarettes, and radio sets were the envy of no one… In fact, only their vodka and rifles managed to earn much praise abroad.

Nice place, right?

Throughout the Twentieth Century, the Soviet Union succeeded in becoming the world’s most powerful wasteland of poverty and suffering. Despite great swaths of hopelessness and despair, Mother Russia managed to bully much of the rest of the world into acknowledging that Communism was a substantial force on the world stage. The empire eventually encompassed a grand total of 15 “republics”. (Of course, calling these puppet states of the Kremlin “republics” is like calling the Islamic State a “humanitarian outreach” program… It’s slightly mislabeled.)

And then, things began to collapse with the fall of the Berlin Wall, and soon the entire union was dissolved as the rotted out core of the Communist Party packed up their bags and decided to forfeit the match. America won the Cold War, free market capitalism had crushed a centrally organized “worker’s paradise”, and basic human freedom had triumphed over oppressive big-government nannyism.

On December 30th of 1922, the Soviet Union officially came into existence; bringing with it 69 years of torture, thievery, genocide, murder and oppression. The kleptomaniacal ideology of communism was thrust upon a nation starved for a utopian ideal… And the world has never been the same.

Embedded deep within the ideology of Bolshevik communism is the politics of envy; and it might serve us well to remember the destruction such politics inflicted upon the human condition. After all, we really don’t need another 1922 anytime soon.

Churchill went so far as to actually call it the gospel of envy. He also said that if Europe united under such a philosophy, it would result in squalor, which is where that continent is headed for the most part.

It is still all the rage. Just cloaked in different terminology. Social justice. Income equality. Redistribution. Subsidies. Entitlements. Political correctness.

Marian apparition at Fatima, July 13, 1917

"To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world."

The communist revolution in Russia transpired in October, 1917.

+++

Exactly 33 years to the day prior to the great Miracle of the Sun in Fatima, that is, on October 13, 1884, Pope Leo XIII had a remarkable vision. When the aged Pontiff had finished celebrating Mass in his private Vatican Chapel, attended by a few Cardinals and members of the Vatican staff, he suddenly stopped at the foot of the altar. He stood there for about 10 minutes, as if in a trance, his face ashen white. Then, going immediately from the Chapel to his office, he composed the above prayer to St. Michael, with instructions it be said after all Low Masses everywhere.

When asked what had happened, he explained that, as he was about to leave the foot of the altar, he suddenly heard voices - two voices, one kind and gentle, the other guttural and harsh. They seemed to come from near the tabernacle. As he listened, he heard the following conversation:

The guttural voice, the voice of Satan in his pride, boasted to Our Lord: "I can destroy your Church."

The gentle voice of Our Lord: "You can? Then go ahead and do so."

Satan: "To do so, I need more time and more power."

Our Lord: "How much time? How much power?

Satan: "75 to 100 years, and a greater power over those who will give themselves over to my service."

Our Lord: "You have the time, you will have the power. Do with them what you will."

In 1886, Pope Leo XIII decreed that this prayer to St. Michael be said at the end of "low" Mass (not "high", or sung Masses) throughout the universal Church, along with the Salve Regina (Hail, Holy Queen); and the practice of the congregation praying these prayers at the end of Mass continued until about 1970, with the introduction of the new rite of the Mass.

"Churchill went so far as to actually call it the gospel of envy."

Churchill was accurate in his description.
The Bible also calls it "covetousness".
There's a reason that tenth commandment from the Creator. Socialism/Communism is covetousness enshrined and imposed by government.

They got smart and realized they couldn’t be “naked” communists,

but they had to “progress” to communism.
