Gotta pay for all the “structurally deficient” bridge replacement projects.

Burn more (and higher( gas using detours to replace bridges, sometimes for no reason other than the sidewalks aren’t up to current ADA specs.

Thanks Tom Corbett! This idiotic bill helped usher Communist empty suit Tom Wolf into the governor’s mansion. Corbett should have had the decency to step down to “spend more time with his family”, and not run for a second term.

Price of gas goes down, add more gas tax, this is all just price control via taxation...

I'm gonn'a cut him some slack on this one.

I think, HE thought, with the gas industry ensconced in Pa and a few more dollars in a LOT of people's pockets, the dime, though exorbitant, was not to be THAT grievous and would help ease some of PA's financial woes.

We STILL have out of control pension plans that WILL be paid ... not that there is a will to pay them ... but that PA (and indeed most of the US) does not have the guts to stand up to and fight the unions that WILL fight for "their" money

Heaven forbid prices be allowed to come down to reasonable levels for many people to benefit.
Big GovernmentTM now to the rescue with more taxes and fees!

Well, it “makes sense”, if you’re a “government owns everything” type of person,

that if the gas price goes down, the consumers should pay the difference to the government.

After all, discretionary spending money in the hands of individuals won’t be spent correctly.

As gas prices plummet, statists everywhere will seize this opportunity to plunder while they can ‘sell’ it to the gullible sheeple as absolutely necessary.

Then they'll go about wasting it on trains, bike paths and other ‘sustainable’ bullcrap.

Republicans raised it under Ridge and Corbett... Republicans controlled both houses and governorship both times...

Fast Eddie was a crook, but the reality is in PA, republicans have raised the gas tax every time they have had complete control since I lived in this state.

NYS is at about 70 cents tax per gallon already. You can feel it coming. Thruway tolls are going up.

But forget fracking here in NY. The government hasn't bought up the lands yet.

The state’s tax on gasoline wholesalers will go up by 9.8 cents per gallon on Thursday, as mandated by Act 89, the transportation funding law the Legislature and Gov. Tom Corbett enacted last year. Three days after that, a 5 percent toll increase will take effect on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

How much, if any, of the gas tax increase will be reflected in pump prices is difficult to discern, but if dealers pass along the entire amount, it would cost a motorist who drives 12,000 miles in a 24 mpg vehicle an extra $49.

“Since the tax is imposed at the wholesale level there is no way to predict what will be passed to consumers,” said Erin Waters-Trasatt, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. “Although there is one tax on gasoline statewide, prices vary widely, even within the same regions, because those in the business are working within the competitive marketplace.”...

The Thursday increase will push the state’s tax to 51.6 cents per gallon, one of the highest in the nation. The tax will not change again until January 2017, when an increase of at least 8 cents per gallon is due.

Tolls on the turnpike will go up by 5 percent for all drivers at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, the seventh consecutive year with an increase....

And over in nj they just can't wait to do the same thing.
But maybe a quarter higher if some get their way.

People are fleeing the state in stampedes because property taxes are killing them.
And those property taxes almost all go to the boe and it's cohorts.

Last I heard Tourism has not been so great.
People can't play games by the shore that isn't.
Everyone knows about the casinos.
Even Conn. has concealed carry...so legitimate gun owners in nj are really getting screwed over by the better than everyone else.

And now they want more money for gas.
Bunch of greedy...
