Cairo (AFP) - An Egyptian court on Sunday tried 26 men for alleged debauchery after accusing them of homosexual activity at a Cairo public bathhouse in a case that sparked international condemnation.
The handcuffed defendants, many of them crying, arrived in court with their heads bowed as police pushed them inside a metal cage, an AFP correspondent reported.
"I am innocent. I was in the hammam for therapy, I swear in the name of Allah," said a defendant as he wept inside the cage, indicating that he was in the steam room of the bathhouse to treat back pain.
"The police beat us every day and force us to sleep on our stomachs," said another.
Egyptian law does not expressly ban homosexuality, but gay men have previously been arrested and charged with debauchery instead.
The defendants were arrested on December 7 in a night raid on a hammam in central Cairo's Azbakeya district...

I am opposed to the criminalization of debauchery as defined by the Egyptian cops.

When I look at the damage the homosexuals have done to our country and our culture then I see no problems with any country stomping out this destructive and dangerous culture of perversion wherever it may be found.
According to the article, even the Egyptian law does not expressly ban homosexuality. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) ordains homosexuals. My idea of ‘debauchery’ is expressed in the movie “Animal House”.

Good grief. Whatever one thinks of the morality of homosexuality, making it illegal — especially with such harsh penalties — is unwarranted.
I’m on the gay’s side on this one.
Yup, that’s another one. But Animal House is my favorite because my nickname, Otter, was given to me in college when I joined a fraternity long before the movie came out. Though I strived, I never achieved the level of debauchery of the movie character ‘Otter’.
Just a guess - maybe it was the CAUSE of the pain in his ummm, back.
While not a member of that specific house a number of my friends were ATO. It was filmed at University of Oregon when no school in California would permit filming there.
