It’s hard to stay a leftist. You need to confine your circle to just people who think like you do. You have to avoid friends or acquaintances who might influence you the wrong way. You have to avoid vacations that might challenge your thought-process. You have to zero-out various radio and TV networks that could influence you to flip to another side of the spectrum. And you have to keep all this up....for decades.
“The harm white liberals do is not limited to their need to erase African American achievement.” I am so sick of the success of black Americans being based on whether white Americans “let” them be successful. In this day and time, this is simply an excuse...and 100% horse manure. What the heck is wrong? These are human beings just as everyone else and somehow white people are to be held responsible for their success or failure. This is frikkin’ disgusting thought.

There are areas of Paterson, NJ that look like Berlin after WW2.
Paterson is the site of the Great Falls and the first manufacturing center for the United States, back in 1792.
A tremendous manufacturing center at its height.
After WW2 the migration of blacks and Hispanics caused a steady decline, crime and white flight.
Thirty years ago, you could write Paterson off.
Now, it is even worse. Remember 9/11/2001? Well, it was in Paterson’s Muslim community where the rejoicing took place.
The media put a kabbosh on reporting that.
Remember Joe Clark—the baseball bat carrying principal of Eastside High School? They made a movie about him.
That was a brief respite in the collapse of Paterson.
Except for the Passaic County Courthouse, no one would go to that city.
And its Congressman is that leftist Commie whackjob, Bill Pascrell. What a loathsome creature he is.
I grew up next to Paterson in the 1960s and 1970s.
It was getting bad even then.

Yes, white supremacy still exists. That’s a fact. What do we do with that fact? What story do we tell? What story will help my students and my city?
I have my own questions for this author. Name me any nation, any city that has arisen solely from a “black” background and is “prosperous”? And by prosperous I mean very little crime, the people who live there are generally happy with their lives and have no wish to move ‘elsewhere’.
Good neighborhoods, cities, states and nations take a lot of work to build and even more to maintain. Someone possibly even the author needs to bend over and pick up that first piece of broken glass, that brick on the ground or perhaps... perhaps that cigarette butt there near that pack of homies on the street corner.
The last anyone had heard of Melvyn, he was in jail. He had been stealing computers. Melvyn was the one member of our group who was born at the right place and the right time to parlay his freakish natural gifts into the best-paying job and the cushiest future. He destroyed all that with stupid, unprofitable, recklessness. Melvyn was black. The scuttlebutt was that Melvyn had felt uncomfortable being the computer demigod of an academic setting, accepted by whites. Stealing computers restored his sense that he was authentic. He was in solid with his homies. He was sticking it to the man. The man who liked, trusted, and relied on him. James is just as black as Melvyn. Mo is an immigrant with the kind of facial hair seen on many an FBI wanted poster, a foreign accent and a name that sets off alarms -- Mohammed. James and Mo were able to build comfortable lives in America. Melvyn could not. But then neither could Patrick, a tall, handsome, heterosexual, Irish-American.
If the premise that all blacks are equal is dropped, then reality is revealed
I don’t think she was trying to say police “wrongfully” shot a disproportionate number, she was saying they shoot more that a statistical percentage would indicate. She is trying to ask what it is that young black men can do to stop putting themselves in the position of being confronted by police. She didn’t come across as anti-cop, but anti-racialist. Just my opinion.
