What the New Congress Should Do
Vanity | 12/15/14 | pgyanke

Posted on 12/15/2014 8:26:43 PM PST by pgyanke

We have been betrayed. Again. Just like in 2010, the outgoing GOP class compromised a referendum election before the new Congress even had a chance to take their seats. In this case, the GOPe "leadership" essentially funded everything the new members were specifically elected to stop.

What can the incoming Congressmen do?

1. Vote for new leadership

2. Remember that no Congress can be bound by a prior Congress.

What if... we had a GOP president and owned both houses of Congress. After losing a wave election where Congress is going to fully flip sides in January, the outgoing Congress passed a CR to fund the GOP's priorities for the remainder of the fiscal year. Heck, why stop there? What if they funded it for the remainder of the president's term? Do you think the Democrats would stand for that? I don't think they would for a second. We shouldn't either.

3. Nullify the CR for seeking to bind the authority of the new Congress.

Congress is tasked with passing the budget. They should immediately begin the budget process for the 2014-2015 fiscal year and send the official appropriations bills to the president's desk one department at a time. This would be the first real budget since President Obama took office.

Continuing Resolutions generally extend until a specific date or regular appropriations bills are passed, whichever comes first. Although Continuing Resolutions have been common in the past, this is the first time I have been able to find where the CR is passed prior to the new Congress and continuing through the remainder of the year. In all cases I have found, a CR in the Fall leads to a follow-on CR in the Spring for the remainder of the year. This is a nod the principle of not binding a future Congress... and the new Congress must insist on their prerogatives.

Boehner and McConnell have already shown their true progressive colors. Their political enemies aren't the Democrats. Their enemies are us, the conservative American people who want constitutionally-limited government. If the new Congress fails to act against them... they will be throwing in their lot to join them.

In January the new incoming Congress can undo all that the lame duck Congress just did and impeach and Jail Obama for his illegal actions that shredded our Constitution

Balanced Budget Amendment.

By law require separate appropriations and separate votes for each department in the executive branch.

“What the New Congress Should Do”

Go out and get a real job and stop sucking the middle class dry. Congress is nothing more than a bunch of modern-day vampires. Lestat and Louis are pikers compared to Congress.

I wouldn’t live long enough to get them to do what they are SUPPOSED to be doing.

1. Elect new leadership
2. Authorize the Keystone Pipeline
3. Break for lunch

That would be a good start...

Wow. I did not realize that an official appropriations bill trumped an active CR. It would still be vetoed but good to know.

We all know what they SHOULD do. What they will do is NOTHING.

When are we going to wake up and realize that this all a lie and no matter who gets elected, big government will just keep getting bigger. When do we wake up and realize that change will only come from

Don’t hold your breath waiting for any of that to happen. I see “business as usual” on the horizon.
