The Democratic Partys losses at the state level are almost unprecedented, and could cripple it for a long time to come.
"........With that said, there are more costs to Democratic weakness in the states than just House elections. States are where parties build talent and try new ideas. Here, the GOP is instructive. Its brightest stars are either governors (Scott Walker, John Kasich, and Chris Christie) or former state officeholders (Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Joni Ernst). And Republican-controlled statehouses have been incubators for conservative ideas, from experiments in tax cutting (Bobby Jindals Louisiana and Sam Brownbacks Kansas) to full-fledged assaults on public-sector unions (Walkers Wisconsin and Christies New Jersey). In all likelihood, the next Republican president will either come from the states, or will borrow his approach from the present generation of GOP governors. Likewise, if Democrats win the White House for a third term, theyll face opposition from Congress and empowered Republican majorities at the state level. Indeed, if not for statehouse Republicans, the Affordable Care Act would be a smoother project, with broader buy-in for exchanges and the Medicaid expansion.
Democrats might have strong national prospects in the form of Hillary Clinton, but they have little to look to in the states. Only a few places stand as incubators for progressive strategies and ideas, and nationwide, Democrats have close to nothing in the way of a bench for federal and statewide office. The liberal counterparts to Walker, Christie, Brownback, and Mike Penceideologically motivated governors with national profilesdont exist. And as a result, liberals cant point to a forward-looking agenda that exists outside the bounds of the presidency......"

The GOP seems to have a death wish, too...
Look at what this flaming liberal is pointing out - it’s the STATES!!
Conservatism is building state by state! Conservatism is incubating in the states and the Dems have nothing like it.
hardly. consider the liberal infiltration of government bureaucracies and the court system.
The dems should understand that REAL AMERICANS detest foreign socialists like 0bama and the effect is to punish all in his party.
Of course, if the GOP continues to follow lying, double-crossing RINO A-Holes like Boehner and McConnell, the pendulum will swing back the other way in 2016.
Well, well.
No joy left.
All bad.
Bad.
Bad.
Bad.
Let’s just quit then.
Good grief.
Can’t the glass be half full around here?
“Cant the glass be half full around here?”
I’m somewhat optimistic. However, Obama is trying a risk-all gamble that blanket amnesty will renew the party by giving it x million new voters.
THIRTY FOUR states didn’t set up healthcare exchanges. An due to the Grubering in the law’s language, it has gone to the Supreme Court.
He’s right Obamacare isn’t having smooth sailing because of those GOP controlled states.
No matter.
The GOP is simply democrat lite...with the lite part becoming even lighter each day.
F Boehner.
F McConnel.
F them until the cows come home.
The salient line in the article is “the Democrats need a massive resettlement program.” They already have one; it’s called amnesty.
Years ago, the Dims realized that large blocs of the electorate, particularly white males and southerners, had left their party and were never coming back. Their response is to accelerate demographic trends by keeping the borders open; registering every minority who arrives in the country, providing plenty of freebies for its next generation of voters.
Additionally, the Dims are carefully protecting their mother lodes of electoral votes in the northeast and along the west coast. A Democratic presidential candidate who carries those states has a tremendous head start on capturing a majority in the electoral college. That leaves a GOP nominee virtually no margin for error; you’ve got to win Ohio, Florida and Virginia or North Carolina to have a shot, along with the rest of the red states. As we’ve seen in recent elections, that strategy doesn’t always pan out.
How has the GOP responded? The base wants the borders closed, Obamacare terminated, a strong defense and a return to fiscal sanity. Meanwhile, the GOP-e just passed a trillion dollar crap sandwich that gave Zero virtually everything he wanted—including funding for amnesty and full funding for Obamacare.
GOP gains at the state and local level have been astounding. But until you change leadership in Washington, those gains mean little. Nominate Willard or Jeb Bush in 2016, and you’ll get more of the same.
I think you mean less light each day. More like Democrats each day.
“The GOP seems to have a death wish, too...”
Yeah, we need a third party to take over. A party of Americans who have American values and are not tied to either unions or the chamber of commerce. A group of people who are true representatives of “the people.”
When the States start to do something about the communists infesting their bureaucracies and universities (particularly law schools), I’ll start to believe that the change is more than ephemeral.
The Democrats are basically down to ... nothing, except the wife of the last viable white guy the democrats will ever have again.
The nattering nabobs of negatism never quit, do they?
Time for the state legislatures to stand up on their hind legs and take the power back.
C'mon, now. Remember where you're posting.
Jesus Christ: You cant impeach Him and He aint gonna resign.

Wisconsin is doing Her part these days.
Individual States are making me VERY hopeful.
The Democrats have suffered a bad defeat??...
Hurry up! We better capitulate to them and give them what they want! We don't want to make any waves or get anyone mad at us. That might stall our momentum.
