ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE (Reuters) - Pope Francis said on Sunday that equating Islam with violence was wrong and called on Muslim leaders to issue a global condemnation of terrorism to help dispel the stereotype.

Francis, the leader of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, told reporters aboard his plane returning from a visit to Turkey that he understood why Muslims were offended by many in the West who automatically equated their religion with terrorism.

Francis' predecessor, Benedict XVI, caused storms of protest throughout the Islamic world in 2006, when he made a speech that suggested to many Muslims that he believed Islam espoused violence. ...

I wonder if/when the pope will become a Muslim, if not in name, in reality.

If it look like a duck, waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck. It certainly isn’t a blue jay.

I NEVER sugarcoat what I think.

As the 14 year old said "You're blunt, as in you leave marks".

Like your screen-name, BTW. I do a lot of reading from that era. If you are talking about Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, the Moors are the ones that called him 'El Cid'.

“”he understood why Muslims were offended by many in the West who automatically equated their religion with terrorism.””

Good grief. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, is it anything but a duck? I guess so in the politically correct world and I guess the Pope belongs to that crowd now.

god rules heaven. he is in charge, on Earth, of those who obey Him, everyone else, though He created them, if they reject His teaching, and His will, are on their own.

This Pope is right for our time, as it is whom the bishops chose.

Well people turn back to the catechism and true teaching after all of this?

Will Americans turn to the founding principals after BO?

People right now want to be bad. They want birth control, abortion, the blurring of sex identity, materialism.

they want it.

god is there fro those who want to follow Him, those who are without representation, at least in this country, if not within their religion. god doesn’t abandon us.

As Winston Churchill stated many years ago...”Islam is to humans what rabies is to dogs” He knew what he was talking about and poor Francis sounds like one of our Rinos in Congress, trying to be everything to everybody. I have absolutely nothing against worshipping God, but everything against all the other rules and crap which go along with it, conceived by mentally disturbed human minds, causing all the strive, mayhem and killings.

Understand the need to placate Islamic governments with the lives of so many minority Christians at risk

Seriously???

There is no placating muslims. There is no negotiating (in good faith)

“Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.” - Manuel Palaiologos.

History teaches us many lessons. That Islam is all about conquest is one that no one should be able to ignore.

Surely you jest. There is the real Pope, and then there is this clown imposter.

The Pope is an enemy of human civilization.

By soft stepping Islam, he gives Islam legitimacy alongside Christianity.

There is no legitimizing anything but Christianity.

To do so makes one an enemy of Christ.
