Supporters of a ballot initiative to require background checks for private gun sales say they have collected more than the required 101,667 signatures to get the issue before voters.
If the signatures are verified, the measure will be presented to the Legislature. If lawmakers dont pass the measure, it would go on the 2016 election ballot for voters to decide.
The initiative says a person cannot sell a gun to another individual without a background check. It would impact private sales, including those conducted online and at gun shows.
There are some exceptions, such as the transfer of a gun between immediate family members.
The seller and the buyer would have to submit their personal information to a licensed gun dealer, who would run it through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The dealer would be able to charge a fee.
Gov. Brian Sandoval vetoed a similar measure that passed in the 2013 Legislature. Republicans, who voted against the measure, now have the majority in both houses of the state Legislature.

And where is the proof that this is even a problem than needs to be addressed?
Something tells me that Bloomberg is lurking in the shadows on this one.
First WA state and now possibly NV?
Oh, there is no doubt that it’s bloomies mom against guns. The safenevada is just a front name to try to distance themselves a little bit from nannie bloomers and the moms. It doesn’t matter if there’s a problem or not. See my tagline.
The way I read it, it’s not “possibly”. The legislature gets to review the “initiative” and can either enact it or not. If they fail to enact it, it goes on the 2016 ballot for the “people” to decide. If the bloomies and margabbies and bradys and mom lookin’ for some action raise the kind of money the did in WA, it gonna be hard to overcome their lies. You know, like, “It won’t affect hunters.” or “It’ll keep criminals and insane people from buying guns at gun shows.” That kind of crap. Seems like the signers didn’t ask any questions about how this would work in actual practice.
For some reason, history keeps repeating itself, every 50 or 100 years. Let me remind everyone what happened in Germany, before the advent of Adolph Hitler. The WIEMAR REPUBLIC convinced the German people, that it’s okay for the people to REGISTER their weapons to the government. Those names will be kept in a “LOCKED BOX”, and the government will never use that law to take the weapons away from the law abiding citizens. THEN CAME ADOLPH HITLER. When Hitler gained power, he used that law to CONFISCATE all the weapons owned by civilians. There was a DEATH PENALTY for any civilian that do not turn their weapons in. Should the citizens of NEVADA or any state decide that registering their weapons to the government in a GOOD thing, they had better think again.
—yes— and besides “lurking in the shadows” , Bloomberg money was supporting at least one of the leading anti-gunners—Justin Jones —who lost-—
Good luck “verifying” all those signatures of illegal alien casino workers. LOL! That ain’t going to happen.
Signatures are the easy part. Actually getting voters to vote for it is a whole different ball game.
A few years ago in Michigan they got more than twice the signatures needed to get a measure on the ballot that would have effectively given unions final say over the state constitution. When it was voted on it was crushed by a better than 60/40 margin.
Less than a year later, forced unionization was dead in Michigan.
According to one report I read, the liars managed to get over 240k signatures. Don’t think that the can eliminate enough of them based on the 10% number they use for verification to toss it. The needed number was close to 102K. Typical low/no info voters will sign anything as long as there’s a promise attached to it. A simple “And this will stop bad guys and nut cases how?” most likely didn’t get asked by the signers. I’m sure they used the “gun show loophole” lie as a driver.
Well Duh!
Getting signatures on a petition is one thing. Turning out voters is another.
Nevada is a pretty pro-2nd Amendment state, isn’t it? I’d think that the NRA would put a lot of money there turning out gun rights supporters, enough not only to have it fail (embarassing to the gungrabbers) but also potentially impact the 2016 NV Senatorial contest where Harry Reid is up for reelection.
So this might just be a good thing.
Based on what I’ve read concerning the WA initiative, NRA ads were nearly non-existent while the billionaires pumped truck loads of money in to pushing their POS I594. The, as usual, bad thing is, that there are enough low/no info voters in Vegas alone to get this passed despite what the rest of the state thinks or how it votes. Since this will end up on the 2016 ballot, it may get way more voter turn out than the mid-terms. Hopefully, we know about this one early enough to mount a campaign to somehow send if off the rails. I’m sure the nannies, mommies, markgabbys, bradys and the rest will be pushing big time for this. After all, “It’s for the children”.
I’d imagine that the lack of paid media in WA was due to the NRA triaging races and putting it’s $$$ where it could do the most good.
NV may not be TX or TN or KY, but it also isn’t WA. AND there’s a chance to knock off Reid, who will have to share a ballot with this thing.
LOL! Uninformed and stupid. What a combo huh?
LOL! With vegas, having hairy on the ballot with an anti-gun initiative? Sound like the epa will be investigating a whole bunch of wet spots in Nov. 2016. Sadly it’ll be at the expense of conservatives since the low/no will buy any promise made. Even though they continue to go unfilled, a promise to them is like gold. Sad eh?
Look at the devil in the details. If you see the word “transfers” then you’re screwed. That is what was in Washington’s I-594. That, along with the outright lies put forth by it’s proponents, the billions put in by the 1%ers, and the utter lack of help from the NRA does not bode well for Nevada. Despite being very leftist in a lot of areas, Washington has always been surprisingly pro 2nd Amendment. I-594 got lied into effect. I fear for Nevada.
Lies are exactly how they got the 200+ thousand uninformed/ignorant/low/no info folks to sign the petition. Along with the BGC petition, one clip board toting numb skull in our area also was foisting a “regulate and tax marijuana” petition at the same time. Kind of a twofer. That petition also obtained more than the required number of signatures. By “regulate and tax” they actually meant legalize. Does NOT bode well for NV.
