Kim Jong-un accountable for massive human rights atrocities, says UN
Comments by special rapporteur in North Korea are strongest yet about supreme leaders responsibility for abuses
Reuters in Seoul
The Guardian, Thursday 13 November 2014 08.30 GMT
A UN investigator has said there is enough evidence to hold North Korean leader Kim Jong-un accountable for massive human rights atrocities committed by the state.
The comments by Marzuki Darusman, special rapporteur on human rights in North Korea, are some of the strongest yet from the UN about Kims responsibility for what they say are widespread abuses.
A UN inquiry concluded in a report published in February that North Korean security chiefs and possibly Kim should face international justice for ordering systematic torture, starvation and killings that were comparable to Nazi-era atrocities.

Somehow this got under Kim's skin. He dispatched all of NK's dimplomatic corps to many countries in the world, to stop it from happening. Then he finally called it off. Probably he gave up. The recent release of two American hostages by NK is likely to be closely related to this effort. Kim has to show the world that he is a humanitarian. We all know he is not, but he does not have to make things worse by keeping them around.

I kept reading this as N. Korean leader Kim Jong un-accountable for human rights atrocities and I thought they were giving him a pass.

The UN could really swing into action, teach him a lesson... The World’s UN could put NK’s UN on a human rights commission.

Don’t be gullible folks.
This headline is simply to get conservatives to say “finally the UN does something right”.
I won’t EVER accept the financial elites United Nations.
IT IS A CORRUPT EVIL BODY, ENGINEERED INTO EXISTENCE BY EVIL PEOPLE, WHO SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR WAR CRIMES AND EXECUTED.

I am not a UN fan. It speaks volumes about UN that it took decades for them to do something useful. It loves to delve into minutiae of sexual politics and imposing their dogma on member countries, while taking all the time in the world and moving at snail's pace on NK, a true human right hell.
The better way to look at it is that NK is so bad that even evil UN could not find an excuse to look away.

Huh, did they finally read the newspapers?
I’ll be a little more impressed by this move after the mass-murdering Islamofascist dictator of Sudan is finally brought to justice. Thanks TigerLikesRooster.

Of course, it will be more talk than action. You know UN. They can’t do anything on real villain. It is just that mere posturing got under Kim’s skin.
