That’s fine, so long as the candidate’s axioms are correct/acceptable. We may differ over how to handle edge cases for certain issues, so long as the core view is reasonable and most normal cases handled right.
Listening to the clip & his comments now, Carson is trying to state the correct view, confirming that there _is_ a right to own semi-autos, and registration is bad news when the gov’t turns to confiscation; his expressed concern is how to keep arms away from crazies. He’s sounding fine ... but fact is he DID suggest governmental removal of semi-autos from dense urban areas, and now DOES advocate “smart guns”.
Sounds like he generally supports RKBA, and found out the hard way that he _must_ express solid support to get elected ... but he’s still kinda squishy & ignorant of notable aspects, and not the kind of person we want making policy thereon.
Make sure that when considering the 80/20 rule, that the 20 doesn’t start contaminating the 80. He may seem 80/20 on RKBA, but he can’t hold the 80 without subjecting it to its own 80/20 division & so on.

Carson would make a good Surgeon General, but I doubt his ability to be an effective POTUS.
There is something fundamentally wrong with people who deny the right of others to self defense.
80/20 is fine on everyday issues. I’m not looking for perfection.
But I demand 100% support for our Constitution from ANY presidential candidate who wants my vote.

With his expertise in medicine he should be thinking along the lines of how do we deal with the insane.
This is a big egotistical hypothetical pride game anyhow. Has he said he does not want to be the president... that should end the discussion.
He wasn’t on my radar but now he never will be.
There a quite a few somewhat conservative Democrats out there as well as a lot of liberal Republicans...Hopefully there's not enough of them...

Pronunciations on a person who has never stated presidential aspirations, or assumptions that someone getting the constitution wrong is an unforgivable unrepentable sin.

Oh wow how folks are going gaga in judgment.
It’s so funny because the question is so moot. He has no such aspirations, and doubtless knows that his career in medical excellence means far more than just being another doctor. Let someone who is not a leading doctor be the president.
