Roberts, your problem was not that you weren’t conservative. It was that

A) You are too quiet and not forceful enough. You don’t have to be young to throw bombs. Just look at Sessions.

B) You fell out of touch with your constituents and didn’t spend enough time in the state.

I hope you have genuinely taken to heart what the voters told you on Tuesday. You will be retiring soon likely, and it would be good to close on a high note, letting Kansans see a bold Pat Roberts who cares about the things that Kansans value.

“I’ve heard my marching orders loud and clear,” Roberts, a Marine veteran, said during his Tuesday evening victory speech. “I will be bold. I will be conservative. And I will be constructive.”
Really. For an old fogey RHINO, that is surprising and welcomed. If that is your affirmation, what were you before that?

This is why it is/was worth voting for RINO’s if that’s all there is to vote for. The conservative wind is blowing, so those without will simply bend with the wind.

Heard loud and clear but it won’t affect his votes in the Senate.

Roberts has had a reasonably good conservative voting record and the indications are it’s going to get even more conservative. So his reelection victory (by a huge margin) was good news.

Unlike Cochran in Mississippi, Roberts is neither corrupt or in the early stages of dementia.

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) declared that he heard his "marching orders" from Kansas voters to be conservative.

And if the voters are too busy living their lives, raising their kids and trying to make ends meet to babysit Sen Roberts, will he stop "being" conservative? How about being a conservative because you personally believe that conservative principles and practices are best, not because you might lose your job if voters pay attention?

Apparently, conservatism is liquid... it runs thru a pipe, and can be turned off, turned on, or there can be a partial flow, controlled via a valve.

Silly me, I thought it was part of someone’s core values.

Actually Roberts does quite a bit of talking to people here. I get townhall calls all the time and listen to people ask questions of him. Of course you get the ones trying to throw him off track by telling him he needs to be bipartisan. Hopefully he has realized those people are just trying to get him to betray his promises to voters and willingly surrender ground to the liberals.

He is a polite person of moderate tone. That is a good thing. He does need to be bolder but that does not mean he must create a whole new personality for himself. He is smart and articulate and can get it done within his own personality style.

“I will be bold. I will be conservative. And I will be constructive.”

He’s lying. Too many people e-mailing and calling him.
He just wants to be able to use the phone
and get his internet bandwidth back. That’s all.

If Roberts stays true to his word, then we have won a big victory as conservatives.

But you can read those FReepers who still want to scrap the GOP very badly and claim they will take their votes elsewhere.

These are not conservatives, but loud-mouthed punks who do not understand the sausage-making called party politics.

The GOP is off-track in many ways. We have too many RINOs as politicians and too many Country Clubbers inside the leadership of the GOP apparatus.

But, those things can be fixed. We can primary the politicians out. We can replace the party leaders.

But, what too many cannot grasp is that none of this happens overnight.

We lose primaries because of bad candidates or too many good candidates splitting the vote. We get screwed by the GOP leadership before we can replace them with solid conservatives.

Conservatives have not shown an ability to coalesce around a single conservative candidate in the presidential primaries yet. We always split our vote and nitpick our candidates to death.

But, we are making progress. We have added some great conservative senators this cycle. We have added some great conservative representatives this cycle.

Are there enough to control the Senate and House? No.

But, that just means we have to continue the hard work of reforming the GOP into a conservative party.

It is concerning that some want to simply go vote and think the work is done.

Even if we could elect a majority of solid conservatives in the House and Senate, our work would not be done. The RINOs and country clubbers will fight back. They will not go quietly into the night.

But, we have shown that we can win.

I am not in favor of supporting a letter. I support principles I believe in. If the Republican party abandons those principles, I will abandon the Republican Party.

Unless you stand your ground on basic principles you will be run over by those who seek to destroy those principles. I will never again side with the “can wins.” That is a call to relinquish my vote to unprincipled strategists. My vote is the only power I have. Those who seek power must earn my respect. I will not vote for a letter and let someone else choose for me. That is the strategy of losers in the long run, even if they win in the short run.
