U.S. Clinic in Liberia Will Treat Doctors and Nurses Who Contract Ebola

Uniformed American officers are due to open and staff a field clinic for Ebola patients outside the Liberian capital of Monrovia this coming weekend, marking the United States’ latest bid to help bring the regional outbreak under control.

President Barack Obama had previously said none of the roughly 4,000 American troops deployed to Liberia would care for patients suffering from Ebola. But, USA Today reports, 70 uniformed government personnel from the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, of the Department of Health and Human Services, will be the first to do so and specifically treat health care workers who contract the deadly virus.

“They have to feel secure that there will be a high level of care provided if they do fall ill of Ebola,” Rear Adm. Scott Giberson, acting U.S. deputy surgeon general, said in the report, adding that the volunteers were among some 1,700 members who had expressed a willingness to be deployed.

Guess what? He lied. Couldn't see that coming could we.

Good!

(Although certain FReeper ex-spurts would prefer that every sick person be brought to US hospitals for treatment!)

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Lied about the number of deployed, too. It was first 3000. Approves a lower number of boots requested by Generals for war but sends more than first requested for a mission with a higher risk of death. Over half a million Africans die of malaria every year. Mostly kids. How hard would it be to address malaria??

Trivial.

DDT is a great preventive.

Volunteers from the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, of the Department of Health and Human Services personnel.

Good, we need the experience.

Yep, I am suffering from Obama fatigue. I just expect that everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie. I never get to a point where I think he can't stoop any lower, because then he stoops lower. I just despise these slime bags.

“1700 volunteers expressed a willingness to be deployed”

and what were these “volunteers” told they’d be doing?

**Uniformed American officers**

Note that while Public Health Service officers are commissioned, they are not technically "troops." They can be mobilized into the Navy, IIRC, and they do provide health care to the Coasties.

What do you think they were told, that they would be doing construction with the Seabees and Army engineers?

"President Obama has assured Americans that none of the nearly 4,000 U.S. troops heading to Liberia will treat Ebola patients, but 70 uniformed officers of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps will."

"The corps, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, will open a clinic outside the Liberian capital, Monrovia, this weekend and is tasked with treating Liberian doctors and nurses who contract the deadly disease. It is the first time U.S. government personnel have been given that assignment, although all volunteered."

They should have kept this “emergency” clinic on a ship offshore. As soon as the word gets out that it’s there you can expect it would be pretty much mobbed with locals looking for help. Remember they are willing to lie to get to the US for treatment. Maybe the Grand Kenyan will set up a desk outside the gate to give the natives plane tickets here——to keep them from busting the gate?

The mission was to build this single 25 hospital for medical personnel and an additional 17 clinics for the population, of 100 beds each, and train 500 health workers per week.

The numbers are being scaled back because of reduced need, but there will still be plenty of beds for the population.
