How did the Tea Party do in the House?
Me | 11/6/2014

As an accompanying piece to my Midterm analysis located here

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3223860/posts

I wanted to maybe give some positive news to those real conservatives who, while happy the Dems have been kicked to the curb, are annoyed that the establishment seems to have 'won the day'.

Yes, the establishment robbed us of many high profile primary races, with Mike Simpson hanging on in Idaho as the most liberal Republican of that delegation, Boehner stooge James Lankford winning the senate nod from Oklahoma, and of course the despicable ruination of Chris McDaniel in Mississippi to save the dribbling Cochran.

But in the House in general, the story was not so clear cut in the final numbers. We did lose some members, half of whom lost while pursuing higher office, but we have new members coming in who promise to be very solid.

Here is a special Tea analysis of the House changes this cycle.

Of the Tea Party caucus in the House, we lost a total of ___ members.

Michelle Bachmann (MN-6) - Retired Kerry Bentivolio (MI-11) - Lost primary to establishment hack David Trott who won the seat in the general Steve Southerland (FL-2) - Lost general election to Democrat Gwen Graham Steve Stockman (TX-36) - Abandoned seat to try an unseat Republican senator John Cornyn. Lost that primary. Paul Bround (GA-10) - Abandoned seat to run for senator. Lost that primary. Phil Gingrey (GA-11) - Abandoned seat to run for senator. Lost that primary.

So, a total of 6 Tea Party losses in the House.

What about the gains?

John Ratcliffe (TX-4) - Shot down incumbent Ralph Hall in the Republican primary. Ran unopposed.

Dave Brat (VA-7) - Astonishingly demolished incumbent house majority leader Eric Cantor in arguably the cycle's biggest upset. Won the general.

Tom Emmer (MN-6) - Succeeding Bachmann, Emmer has a solid fiery conservative record. He won easily.

Jody Hice (GA-10) - Succeeding Broun, this guy is infuriating Democrats who are calling him 'the most evil republican of 2014!'... so you know he's solid gold! Easily won in the deep red district and has said he wont vote for Boehner.

Barry Loudermilk (GA-11) - Succeeding Gingrey, Loudermilk is actually more conservative than his predecessor, endorsed by SCF, ran unopposed and won't vote for Boehner.

Mia Love (UT-4) - Early Tea Party favorite, after much struggle, she is IN!

Alex Mooney (WV-2) - Solid conservative wins the seat previously held by moderate now-Republican-senator Shelly Moore Capito in a walk.

David Rouzer (NC-7) - Been waiting to come to congress for a while, this was his year. Replaced retiring blue dog Democrat Mike McIntyre.

Ken Buck (CO-4) - Likely to be a little more conservative than now-Republican-senator Cory Gardner, former 2010 senate candidate is now a congressman.

Barbara Comstock (VA-10) - A Mark Levin pick for congress, she won easily the seat of retired RINO Frank Wolf.

Bruce Poliquinn (ME-2) - A very conservative candidate who won the primary in an upset. Establishment though he'd lose. He didn't.

Crescent Hardy (NV-4) - Consevative state assemblyman. He beat Democrat Steven Horseford in an upset. Democrats already griping he's a radical.

Mike Bost (IL-12) - Dubbed Meltdown Mike for his explosive defenses of the 2nd Amendment on the floor of the state house, he is going to be giving as much hell to the democrats and RINOS as Stockman did.

Gary Palmer (AL-6) - Seizing the seat held by retiring RINO Spencer Bachus is a solid Alabama conservative.

Johnny Tacherra (CA-16)??? - Seems on course to unseat Democrat incumbent Jim Costa in an upset nobody saw coming. He comes out of the Tim Donnelly school of California right wing thought.

-----------------------------------------------

Well, that means the Tea Party 'radical' wing of the Republican Party lost 6 and gained 15, for a net total of 9 pickups for the Tea Party in the house.

Now, it is true that overall, the Republicans picked up likely 17 seats formerly held by Democrats, and so this dilutes it a little, but it seems like a wash to me.

Rumors that Boehner now has enough 'spare' votes to ignore his Tea caucus are false. He's in exactly the same position he was in before, perhaps even moreso a hostage as he did lose a couple of moderates himself (Bachus, Hall, Wolf).

I hope this provides some encouragement. The Tea Party is ALIVE AND WELL.

Poliquinn disavowed the Tea Party label (which he had owned in a previous race) in order to win, but he is ideologically Tea. His record proves it.

if Teaparty has become a religion, I disavow it, too.

Walter Jones- defeated pro-amnesty challenger backed by Sheldon Adelson.

Jones is the only NC member who can be trusted on amnesty.

WI06: Glenn Grothman - most conservative member in the midwest.

He’s unmarried so he can spend a lot of time manning the watchtowers 24/7 when Boehner is up to no good trying to pass bills while people are absent.

http://www.newrepublic.com/article/119214/republicans-shift-wisconsins-6th-district-petri-grothman

So unless Harris can pick up a sizable share of Walker voters, Glenn Grothman is coming to Washington—bringing his condemnations of Kwanzaa and MLK Day to the same office held for several decades by a Republican who once belonged to the NAACP and engaged in a sit-in at a Woolworth’s counter.

Boehner and Warren Buffett lost Lee Terry (NE02) while the Tea Party voted 3rd party.

Open seats are easier so you can end up with people like Grothman or Ratcliffe or Jodi Hice.

I had no idea what Lee Terry was, so I didn’t mention him, but if he was a RINO, then good riddance. Not like we couldn’t afford the loss.

Forgot Grothman. He sounds very good.

I’ll be interested to see how Stefanik and Blum vote.

Very good, a near-total blitzkrieg with only small disappointments in Kentucky and Maine, where they just failed to take the House, and Iowa, where they missed the senate.

Outside of that, they stole the lower chambers in Minnesota, New Hampshire, West Virginia, New Mexico, and Nevada

They also took control of upper chambers in Colorado and West Virginia

Colorado and Washington’s lower chambers remain undecided right now, we’re awaiting close results.

It's quite encouraging. These constitutional conservatives did not run away from their values or pander to the establishment to win. As far as the "tea party" label? I no longer like it, as Chamber of Commerce types often use it, the ones who are only in it for lower taxes and cheap labor.

With another dozen or so real conservatives, I'd think the HOR has a critical mass of them, and with the victories they gained, perhaps reps will be less likely to cave to the establishment. The new breed tells me that conservative thought is gaining ground with a percentage of younger people.

And then in the US Senate, Sasse, Cotton, and Ernst and some of the others will be giving Cruz, Lee, Sessions and the others who want to save the US some much needed company.

The media isn't talking about it...SURPRISE. I don't see how constitutional conservatives and the momentum to fight against the invasion of the US, getting rid of ObamaCare, and turning Obama into someone unworthy of compromising with could have done much better.

And then there's the Governors. Even rabid liberals are recognizing that having a Republican, law and order, pro state rights governor is desirable. I'm calling it the "Ferguson Effect".

Let's not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The important thing now is to hold the new crowd accountable for their campaign promises.

You totally missed the addition of Tim Scott to the Senate from South Carolina. Tim Scott represents constitutional order and solid conservative principles.

Well, since he’s in the Senate, and not the House, I doubt this was an oversight. This article is about the House of Representatives ;)

can any one point me to a site where I can easily review the winners and losers of Tuesday's election?....

and if anyone knows how Martha McSally is doing, let me know.....I think if she can win, I'll be 4 for 5 in races where I sent money....(Walker,S.Brown,Mia,Martha and Joni Ernst)..

This is interesting. Aren't there establishment types and even the occasional Democrat still in marginal positions who like their jobs and don't want to anger any more of their customers?

Nothing happened to shake most liberals in California or Minnesota, and liberals may think the rebound is inevitable in 2016. There have to be some places, though, that still make national politicians want to show better understanding.

Perhaps in the Senate they will at least be forced to do things on record for the first time in several years.

TEA PARTY CANDIDATE STEVE KRAUS DEFEATS OHIO DEMOCRATIC CHAIRMAN FOR OHIO HOUSE 89th DISTRICT
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3223523/posts

In a major victory by the Ohio TEA Party Movement, TEA Party Republican Candidate Steve Kraus from Sandusky, Ohio, has defeated Ohio Democratic Chairman Chris Redfern for Ohio House seat in the 89th District that includes Erie and Ottawa Counties. Redfern had been in the Ohio House since 1999 and has been State Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party since 2005

Nothing like that I don’t think. I did list the competitive races and how they turned out in my Midterm Analysis, but its not interactive CNN-style map or anything.

AP reports that with 100% of the vote in McSally leads Ron Barber by less than a point. They’re sifting through absentee now I think. She is likely to win at this point.
