WASHINGTON National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden released the following statement today on Will Hurds victory in Texas 23rd Congressional District:
I congratulate Will Hurd on his hard-earned victory. Will ran a fantastic campaign that focused on the issues Texans care about. Will truly has dedicated his life to helping his country and this is yet another proud chapter. Im honored to call him a friend and colleague.

Hurd: 57,430 Votes to Gallego’s 55,144 votes
Picking up House seats all over the place.
“Picking up House seats all over the place.”

And in Maine, too! Bruce Poliquin, conservative GOP winner in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.
Congrats to Will Hurd, the newest African American member of the House GOP conference. He’s a former CIA agent.
Hurd joins Mia Love as the 2nd Black Republican elected to the House tonight.
But the liberals said we’re all racist!
Great news for Texas!
and Rick Scott to the Senate
Poliquin is a solid conservative if i recall
That’s Senator *Tim* Scott. He was appointed to fill the vacancy after DeMint retired, so he’s been there for almost 2 years (after serving in the House for 2 years), but this was his first Senate election. Excellebt conservative.
Eastern Long island NY as well.
which one of you told us, last summer, that Hurd had no chance in this district?
Auh2 didn’t think he had a shot, IIRC.
Wasn’t me!!! ;D
Very nice result.
It was me; I’m glad to have been wrong.
This is the second consecutive midterm in which a non-Hispanic Republican beat a Hispanic Democrat incumbent in an overwhelmingly Hispanic Texas congressional district. In 2010, Blake Farenthold beat Solomon Ortiz in TX-27; Farenthold probably would have lost in that CD in presidential 2012, but 2011 redistricting lowered the Hispanic percentage by like 30% and he won easily under the new lines. Hurd will not have the luxury of redistricting before 2016, and he likely will be one of our most vulnerable freshmen in that election.
“Poliquin is a solid conservative if I recall.”

Yes, he is. A conservative third party candidate.....
Blaine Richardson, a retired Navy Captain, received 11%
of the vote.
In a two-way race, Bruce Poliquin would have won in a landslide. Congressman-elect Poliquin is a great guy, a successful businessman.
Ugh the Republican gay rapist won in California. One victory we could have done without!
Lol, he's also the former President of the Texas A&M Student Body..That might count more in TX, than his CIA career.
Gallego had quite the machine and was considered unbeatable.
I think all the crap the media says about Hispanics being Democrats is going to prove wrong, at least in Texas.
Gig ‘em, and congrats, to my fellow Aggie! Whoop!
