Connecticut conservative gubernatorial candidate Joe Visconti is dropping out of the race. Visconti, who was on the ballot as an Independent, is endorsing Republican challenger Tom Foley for governor.
Visconti said he was exiting the race because he didnt want to see Malloy re-elected. If I cant be governor, I want to help Tom be governor, he said.
Visconti, a big advocate of gun rights, had been urged by grassroots Tea Party activists who had been his supporters, as well as state Republican leaders, to get out of the race. He said he made his decision when he observed the latest Public Policy Polling poll that showed Malloy ahead by three percentage points, with Visconti in third place with six percent of the vote. The latest Rasmussen poll has Malloy ahead by one percentage point.
A Quinnipiac poll released last week found seven percent favoring Visconti, and Foley having a one-point advantage with Visconti out of the race altogether.
I had to pull the trigger, and I pulled the trigger, Visconti said.

Kind of late, isn’t it? Seems it would have been more helpful by last Friday at a minimum, preferably a few weeks ago.
Confusing why Sabato still has this going to Malloy. Calculating in voter fraud maybe
Rinos would NEVER do this. When they lose in a primary they run as a write in or support the democrat.
One does wonder about the last-minute timing, but if it swings votes Foley’s way, it is welcome.
BTW, is it me, or does “Joe Visconti” sound like the name of a character you’d find in a 1970’s Bronson movie?
Better late than never... it’s all good.
I saw Sabato’s article.
He bases his decision on a Q-poll that was conducted from Oct 28 - Nov 2
The Q-poll includes Visconti in the results.

I don’t believe many tea party candidates do either.
I can understand if people don’t. They probably feel bad for all the people that invested time and money into their campaigns.
Now Visconti is gone, I say Malloy goes down.
I am disgusted Florida is about to elect Crist. A distasteful as Scott is, Crist is the worst slime I have ever seen run for governor anywhere.
A day late and a dollar short.
But I’ll vote for Foley even though voter fraud will give us Malloy.
If Scott loses to Crist, it will be all the RINOs doing. They created this entire situation. Crist was a known problem before he ever became governor. They gave him cart blanche because they wanted to “win.” They won with him and when he wanted more than they wanted to give him, he turned.
Once again, a few months before the election, all they can imagine doing is passing a “Dream Act” through the Florida legislature and getting Scott to sign it. No one I know was happy about that except the Rubio’s RINOs here in the state. I don’t know how enthusiastic a supporter of amnesty Scott is, but he would get no help from the party [JEB!] this election unless he played ball and signed the bill.
So they set this up so that conservatives would have no desire to do anything for Scott. Maybe the GOPe wants to get in good with Crist again? After all, he has been their guy.
Just couldn’t drop out when the other 6 or 7 did because of the primary, huh?
Now you screwed Foley, the Republicans, and every citizen of CT. Not everyone will get the message in time and still vote their “principles”, which hands the victory to Malloy.
Your ego is the great destroyer of more than can be imagined.
Agreed. But at least he did the right thing, late though it is. And with the story hitting the news it may be enough to swing the race.
I concur. I’m blown away by this mess here.
I thought Scott had been doing a pretty good job with jobs, etc.?
Dannell pack your bags...
I doubt Crist will be voted in...I think Rick will win...
He has allowed lots of jobs to be created.
