This, however, seems to be too rubish a deduction for its critics. So reflexive has the search for complexity become that even the most straightforward of questions are now twisted and bent into more pleasingly distressing shapes. In her Brooklyn Magazine piece, Iverson argues that its no coincidence that Roberts is presented in the video as being explicitly not responsible for the attacks on her because shes not wearing provocative clothes and she doesnt respond to any of the verbal assaults thrown at her. At first blush, one would have imagined this to be a positive thing. Does not the filmmaker deserve credit for having produced a piece of work that could not easily be dismissed?
Of course not. Per Iverson:
The clear implication here is that Roberts is just an innocent woman who doesnt deserve these catcalls, thus suggesting that there are some women who, because of the way they dress or because of the way they respond, could be thought to be asking for it.

God I hate most writers nowadays. You should know within the first two sentences what they are talking about. You know, who, what, where, when and why. This whole first paragraph gives no clue. You’re just assumed to know what he is talking about. Bah. Life’s too short.
I thought it was going to be a kitty thread. :(
Who came up with that ugly acronym?
The first time I saw it at Steve Sailer’s stuff now on unz.com.
The link provided is to the second page of the article.
Just my opinions: It is an overtly racist acronym — coined by an overtly racist person — and has no place here on FreeRepublic.
All Just my opinions.
Time was that when people called FR a hate site, I could laugh them off. Would love for that to be the case again.
Most of the guys are simply complimenting her. Just a few act out. Yes, black guys like girls and they’re working-class enough to show it. White guys are scared to death they’ll get a federal law suit thrown at them if they compliment a girl.
Personally, I think parts of this are staged. And the attention she gets is mostly because she’s being proceeded by a film crew! They probably thought she was famous and/or wanted to be in the video.
And, believe me, I’ve been the recipient of cat calls in my life. Almost all of these don’t make the cut.
Yeah, I figured that out eventually.
Black guys are like rabid dogs,
AND DEMOCRATS ?
Indeed, if they could have somehow had produced extra-detailed video of some white dentist or accountant having a glance at her extra large breasts, and then quickly looking away, they would have loved to have had it to show white people’s rampant sexism.
But all they got were hispanic and black guys instead.
When I was in my teens a friend and I used to make rude comments to attractive women. We both grew out of it and,as adults, wouldn’t think of doing it.I must admit that,as an adult,I *have* been known (quite often) to shake my head, smile and say (to myself) “now *that* is a nice looking woman”.
Your daughter’s experience in California was also my experience in California. I live in Wyoming now and I do not miss having to deal with these sexual predators every time I was out in public.
Liberals view their women as sex objects while conservatives view women with respect.
Another liberal attack on women.
I think the writer does all of that and more ...
The blame goes to the original poster. I thought the same thing until I realized that nobody at NR writes that way, then saw that this was the second page of the article.
I once was able to call a cat; but it’s extremely rare! ;-)
Bear in mind that there are trolls out there; they are people who have nothing positive to contribute to the world, so they derive pleasure from annoying others. Getting a reaction — even a negative one — makes them feel that they at least have some effect on something or somebody. It is a similar mentality to a graffiti artist who defaces something that they couldn’t possibly create.
Many of the men in this video are actually annoyed by this woman’s beauty, so they want to annoy her in retaliation. Merely by walking by, she is interrupting their thoughts, so they feel entitled to interrupt hers with the explicit hope of making her feel uncomfortable.
What else would be the object of yelling “DAYUM” or “That’s a thousand dollaz that just walked by.”?
It may be different in a small town where everybody knows each other, but in an urban environment it is threatening for a strange man going up to a woman and trying to force her to acknowledge him.
That is something who does not care about what the other person might feel would do — and something that they would not want done to them or theirs. Strong women may be able to handle this, but those who are vulnerable will be terrified. And that is the intention.
And there is a certain class of predators who use such methods to identify their next victims
