Ax attack on D.C. cop prompts warnings, new protocols for police
CNN ^ | 10/31 | Pamela Brown and Shimon Prokupecz

An officer with Washington's Metropolitan Police Department came under an unprovoked attack Friday from a man wielding an ax, police said, the second such attack in two weeks that is prompting warnings and new protocols to officers on the job.

The attack, and another last week in which a man attacked four New York City officers with a hatchet in Queens, prompted an immediate increase in security for officers in both D.C. and New York. The New York Police Department said in a memo: "Police Officers on patrol should maintain a heightened level of awareness."

The attack in Washington occurred around 3 a.m. as the officer was sitting in his marked squad car in Washington's Brookland neighborhood, near the campus of Catholic University of America, police said.

The officer, who hasn't been identified, wasn't injured by the ax, but he chased the suspect and suffered a shoulder injury in a scuffle before the attacker ran away, police said. No motive is known and the suspect remains at large. Police said he was an African-American man about 6 feet tall and of stocky build.

A photo provided to CNN by a law enforcement official shows the ax implanted in the window of the police car, just inches away from where the officer's head was inside the car.

Hmm, I'm not the conspriacy theory type, but I'm wondering if this isn't somehow ISIS inspired.

Two random attacks on law enforcement with axes. Three attacks if you count the ambush in PA - although that was with a gun.

Has someone been ranting about inspiring lone wolf attacks on Cops?

Two identical random, lone wolf attacks... I am sure they are totally unrelated

I’m not there yet ,, it’s a big country and statistically those two attacks are insignificant... What’s weird is that the window stayed together ,, only the windshield is laminated... the side glass must have had aftermarket window tint applied.

Probably just another isolated incident in a long line of other isolated incidents...

"Two random attacks on law enforcement with axes."

----------------------------------------------------->

Remember the soldier in Britain was attacked by an axe.

I guess an axe is better than suicide bombing./s

Or a copy cat of the NYC crime. Still, it’s odd.

How many ax attacks on police in the prior year? And now two within a couple of weeks?

Attacking a cop with an ax is sufficiently odd that it tends to make national news — which might be the intent.

Walid Shoebat had a post a few weeks ago that said ISIS had declared they wanted 10 million of us dead. Sounds to me like folks are responding to their plea. This will probably get worse before it gets better because our Lame Stream Media totally ignored the fatwa or whatever they call it.
I read today that 80% of Muslims in London support ISIS if that support is that high amongst Muslim population in the USA we will have major problems

The cop should have locked down his social media!

Death to the terrorists.

Recent threats, revealed through various intelligence and law enforcement sources, indicate that terrorists, directed or inspired by the Islamic States of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), view members of U.S. military members and law enforcement officers as legitimate targets for attacks. Targets in recent ISIL-linked terrorist plots included places of public gatherings, government entities, mass transit nodes, and religious facilities. Attacks would most likely involve edged weapons, small arms, or improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and could be perpetrated with little-or-no advanced warning. In light of these threats and recent attacks in the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, remaining vigilant is paramount.

This security advisory is a reminder of individual protective measures designed to help reduce the possibility of you or your family members from becoming the target of a terrorist attack.

All DoD employees should review the Antiterrorism Level I Awareness Training and incorporate protective measures at work, at home, during travel, and in your communities. It is important that you ensure all members of your family are made aware of this valuable information so they not only protect themselves, but also become an integral part of the overall community antiterrorism effort.

Recommended Individual Protective Measures:
• DoD personnel are reminded to use OPSEC at work and at home
• Secure DoD affiliated credentials (CAC/Building passes) when in public
• Remove any DoD/military/law enforcement decals or identifiers from clothing and vehicles
• Vary your travel routes to and from work
• If You See Something, Say Something.
• Maintain situational awareness or avoid public venues where large gatherings of people congregate
• Educate your family members on basic security practices
• Be careful of information shared on social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
• Lock down your social media and change your passwords regularly
• Do not post anything on social media that affiliates you with DoD/the military or law enforcement
• Do not post anything on social media opposing terrorist groups or organizations

In earlier days, a cop would have been more likely to shoot the guy, even though in the back, rather than allow him to escape into the community.

Ferguson is making cops more skittish about shooting a black guy. Especially in a black-dominated city, and especially when Obama is in office.

Me neither. A couple of years ago, there was a guy running around DC attacking people with a hammer. Turned out to be a loon, not a terrorist.

I think you can say, without a doubt, that it is. Both are inspired by the same evil that’s been let loose in the earth.
