ty...pay no attention to the RealClearPolitics poll...it’s totally meaningless. 2016 is shaping up to be 1980...not 2012. Lots of surprises on the horizon to shake things up. Grassroots have learned plenty about the opposition on both sides.

Cruz: Hillary will win if GOP runs a Moderate in 2016

Let's see:

Bush I
Bob Dole
Bush II
McCain
Romney

...and Cruz says "if"? The last time the GOP nominated a non-incumbent conservative presidential candidate was 1980 - 36 years ago by the time 2016 rolls around. The GOP establishment looks across the political landscape and it does not see liberals as it's opposition - it considers conservatives to be the opposition or, at best, tools to be used and betrayed. Conservatives need a strong, principled political party which represents their views, not the views of aging moderate Democrats, which is what the GOP establishment basically is.

This is a message that needs repeating over and over until the so - called in the middle republican voter understands that a conservative message can win over the media’s personal pick; I will say / do anything candidate to win. I hope the Tea Party will start pushing term limits legislation so, we can get rid of these career politicians.
You have to do like the liberals, don’t back down with your message. Conservatism is the cure for liberalism because it offers solutions.

As much as it pained me, I voted for McCain in ‘08 and Romney in 2012.

->> Bush I Bob Dole Bush II McCain Romney

And, that is what the base is up against. Of all of those years (weak candidates) and they have not changed courses to date. Bush W. could had been a great president (in my view) if he didn’t get there and cross over the aisle with the Kennedy likes and caved on pushing the conservative message. He had the whole thing, (his base) and blew it. Danm straight, if I went there, I would not want to impress the media. I would follow the party’s platform. If you didn’t like that, then leave the party.

The amnesty issue alone will destroy the country and that is the most terrifying scenario that we are facing. I hate OBama, for what he though, mainly for what he has done to our vets and changing America intto some third world nation. He’s a fraud and the media knows it to be so. We need a candidate that has guts to clean this government up / not a person wanting to govern by polls..like a President Bush Jeb would do. No, thanks.

It’s more like Choose a Rino and you’ll suffer from lack of participation from the base. Christie is #1 in this department — having provided aid and succor to Obama during the critical last days of 2012 elections.

Bush has the millstone chained to his leg. He’s a non-starter.

Romney would suffer from lack of participation but could possibly win as a consolation for 2012.

Scott Walker would be an exciting choice as he’s taken on the Liberal base time and time and has won more often then lost.

IMHO (meaning no hysterical responses needed) Cruz has no chance. The GOP nominee will either be a Governor or Ex-Governor. Somebody with proven and demonstrable executive ability. Cruz is still a back bencher nationally, though a conservative hero to the GOP.

OK, I’m gonna throw this out there. Hopefully I won’t get “keyboard mugged” by too many FReepers:

We know that whether it is Hillary Clinton or “Lie-a-watha” Warren, the Dems are going to nominate a woman. So my question is: What about Susana Martinez, Republican Gov. of New Mexico? How Conservative is she? If she is a “true” Conservative (not a Karl Rove Conservative).... being a Latina and female, she might make a great V.P. candidate. Just sayin’.

Now, before anyone jumps on me and rags on me about “Identity Politics”, stop and think. That’s all the V.P. spot is..... Identity Politics.

and once again, if the Republican candidate doesn’t full fill my fondest wish, I’ll stay home and let the democrats elect another Obama....how’s that working out for you???? I don’t care who the pubbies run, he/she would be a better choice than the best that the demo’s have to offer....by far...

Except...how's that working out for you?

What’s the track record of candidates we’ve had to hold our noses to vote for, so as not to be overpowered by the stench of Rinocrat?

1992...HW pi$$ed away an 80% Desert Storm approval rating, lost to Bubba..."Read my lips..."

1996...Bob Dole, famously tagged as the tax collector for the welfare state...co-sponsor of how many Kennedy-Dole bills?

2008...John McCain...first to go nuclear on fellow Repubs, but famously said we need not fear a Barack “no middle name” Obama presidency.

2012...Mitt Romney...again went nuclear on fellow Repubs, went limp on Obama..."I was for Obamacare before I was against it."

Those who say we need to hold our noses and vote for the Rinocrat need to show when that’s been a successful strategy.

“Rick Perry was looking better than 2012 but has since teamed up w/ MeCain’s old team headed by that RINO, Palin-Hater, Steve Schmidt.”

Perry also hired henry barbour from cochran’s Mississippi campaign. You can learn a lot about a candidate by who he associates with. I wouldn’t have thought Perry would had anything to do with schmidt or barbour.

He was never Governor of Texas, but he served as Solicitor General, an office right below Attorney General. He represented Texas before the Supreme Court. That’s no small potatoes.

“We need another Ronald Reagan and the closest person to being that is Ted Cruz. They call him a right-wing wacko, but in January 2017, they’ll be calling him “Mr. President”. The guy is brilliant.”

When he runs we just have to make sure that we close-ranks early on and dont screw around with having 4 other people in to split the conservative vote. It doesn’t matter how nice that person is or how often they go to church or how clean their kid’s teeth are.

[ The Democrat candidate in 2016 will win. The Republican Nominee will be a party stalwart deserving of the Party’s recognition. He will also be the Next In Line. Currently three men are jostling for their place in line. Christie will be pushed aside because he is a newcomer and has not the stature of a Party Stalwart. The Nominee will be Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney. The Democrat will become President. Neither Bush nor Romney has any vision to offer beyond better management of the Total State. Neither wants the job anyway and neither will actually wage a serious campaign. ]

If we do SOMEHOW manage to get someone like Cruz of Lee in as the GOP nominee, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the RINOs breaks ranks and joins up with Hillary as her VP, either “the Jebster” or “Krispy Kreme” and they will run as the “Unity Party Choice against the Extremeist Tea Party Conservatives”

Being a life-long Texan, I've followed Rick Perry's entire political career. If I would have been inclined to support him for POTUS, what you said above disqualifies him, IMO. Besides that, he's really a light-weight. He has his good qualities, but, he's not my choice for POTUS and associating with Cochran and the Barbours, that seals the deal.
