We’ll hear a lot about bottlenecks on nominations and legislation if the GOP wins control of the Senate. It’s telling, however, that the Obama administration has begun to complain about it now — and that the media is picking it up. The State Department wants Harry Reid to focus on clearing the backlog in the lame-duck session after the election, because they’re worried about what happens when Republicans take charge in January … an outcome to which they have apparently resigned themselves:
State Department officials and Washingtons diplomatic community are pressing the Senate to address a backlog of ambassadorial nominations during Congress post-election lame-duck session.
They fear that if the Republicans win control of the Senate, the already sluggish pace of voting on President Barack Obamas nominees will worsen over the next two years.
We dont know whats going to happen in the elections, said Kristen Fernekes, a spokeswoman for the 17,000-memberAmerican Foreign Service Association. We dont know whats going to happen in the lame duck. Were deeply concerned about this becoming the new normal, and we dont want to see it take 400, 300, 200 days to get people to their posts.
McClatchy’s William Douglas reports that Democrats on Capitol Hill are already accusing Republicans of planning to sabotage the process:
Democrats and several political analysts foresee difficulties for the White House in getting its nominees confirmed by a Republican-controlled Senate. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who stands to become the chambers majority leader if his party wins control in the coming elections, has vowed to restore so-called regular order to the Senate, a process in which legislation and nominations go through committees before being debated and voted on by the full Senate.

Slow walk?!
NO, STOP THEM!
I don’t agree with slow-walking them. Vet them in a timely fashion. Reject those who are problematic. Duh!
ussc...Obama wants to nominate holder. after the election...the chick will resign and Obama will submit his name.
Look, he has already given up. He knows what is about to happen and that is
why he is wearing a red wristband.
The whole idea of this election is to slow walk the Executive Branch. Get it?
That’s the problem,
for some reason, the GOPe seems to think that the voters want them in charge of distributing the plunder,
not stopping the plunder.
Nuclear option payback.
I’d make that walk very slooooowwwww.
First things first.
Get rid of Reid by getting rid of the Dem’s majority.
Restore regular order & pass budgets instead of CRs. Starve the over-regulatory elements of the EB.
Go after the weak sisters among our own ranks.
In other words, cull them, then cull ourselves.
Go suck eggs, Kristen.
I know Ø can find someone worse. Watch the initial-fodder nominee to be Holder, expected to go down in flames, so that his "compromise" nominee, much worse, can follow.
Since Holder has so much baggage, he'd never get thru... already in contempt of congress and involved in so many scandals, so Ø would use that all to his advantage.
As I recall democrats don’t really seem to have a problem finding Republican Senators to vote for their judicial nominees, didn’t lindsey graham vote for sotomyer? Or was that kagan? Or both of them?
Obamas nominees will worsen over the next two years.
I like the sound of that and not to soon.
America will do well with fewer bureaucrats running Fascist agencies.
In other words, cull them, then cull ourselves.
Exactly right!
Too many can’t see that strategy and sit out elections because some candidates on our side aren’t “pure” enough.
Going after the 17,000 Foreign Service “employees” would be a good start. They are “enablers” of a “foreign policy” that’s killing us.
