The Democrats' Achilles' Heel
Townhall.com ^ | October 31, 2014 | David Limbaugh

I read a shocking headline today: "Ex-Con: Most Black Youths See Obama As 'Deadbeat' Leader." Is this an obvious outlier, or could there be something to this?

The ex-con referred to in the headline is Paul McKinley, a member of Voices of the Ex-Offender, which is described as a grass-roots group of former inmates.

On the "Steve Malzberg Show" on NewsmaxTV, McKinley said: "Every time they question the president about the black community, he's apologetic or he's embarrassed. ... I would say, 97 percent of the time he (doesn't) even want to say that there even exists a black community. So a lot of the young people are seeing this double standard that the president has."

McKinley correctly observed that black Americans have identified with the Democratic Party since the mid-1960s, when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law. Since that time, they have been voting overwhelmingly Democratic.

McKinley's choice of the word "identified" is telling. Black Americans do identify with the Democratic Party, as distinguished from particularly aligning with its policies.

I have long believed that the Democrats' real Achilles' heel is it's urgent, desperate need to retain some 90 percent of the black vote to win national elections, for if that percentage decreased even moderately, they would be in serious electoral jeopardy.

This Achilles' heel is exacerbated by the largely unspoken disconnect between the worldview of many blacks and the Democratic Party's agenda. There are many black Christians and other blacks who tend to incline toward social conservatism, which is anathema to the party with which they almost monolithically identify. I would bet that many blacks, even among those who vote reliably Democratic, lean toward economic conservatism, as well. Yet many of the blacks who aren't in line with the Democrats' obsession with abortion on demand and other socially liberal ideas still vote for Democrats.

I think this is purely and simply because most blacks have been convinced that only Democrats care about them. Sure, many believe that the evidence for this is that Republicans promote welfare reform and the like. But it's more than that for most.

I truly believe that many blacks vote Democratic mostly because of this noxious lie that Republicans and conservatives are racist, a pernicious slander that race-baiting black leaders and way too many Democratic politicians have peddled. This has been a pet peeve of mine for years, and it amazes me that it still works at all.

If this tactic didn't work, Democrats wouldn't keep using it, but they do, as when certain of their party leaders suggested that President George W. Bush deliberately abandoned blacks on their rooftops in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and when others suggested that a vote for a certain Republican would mean another black church would burn or the civil rights of the African-American community would be eliminated.

If anything, Democrats are getting worse about this. The New York Times reported this week that in the closest Senate races across the South, Democrats are turning to racially charged messages -- "invoking Travyon Martin's death, the unrest in Ferguson, Mo., and Jim Crow-era segregation -- to jolt African-Americans into voting and stop a Republican takeover in Washington."

The Times admitted: "The images and words they are using are striking for how overtly they play on fears of intimidation and repression. And their source is surprising. The effort is being led by national Democrats and their state party organizations -- not, in most instances, by the shadowy and often untraceable political action committees that typically employ such provocative messages."

Democrats are employing this shameless smear all over. In North Carolina, a super PAC begun by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid aired an ad on black radio accusing Republican candidate Thom Tillis of supporting the kind of gun law that "caused the shooting death of Trayvon Martin." In Georgia, Democrats are distributing a flier warning blacks that their voting is the only way "to prevent another Ferguson." It shows two black children with cardboard signs saying "Don't Shoot."

These are so transparently over-the-top that I can't help but believe that even some black voters will be turned off by them. Indeed, there are signs that some black voters are tiring of the propaganda. I just saw an Internet video featuring a number of black men citing the Democrats' advocacy of the minimum wage law as insulting. What good would a minimum wage increase do, one asks, when there would be even fewer jobs?

These developments, coupled with the fact that black turnout is predicted to be very low in the upcoming elections, do not portend well for Democrats.

I am optimistic that at some point, many black voters will realize they have been used and abused by the Democratic Party, which is keeping them down, dependent on government and locked in inner-city schools and is overtly trying to alienate them against Republicans by categorically describing Republicans as racists.

The objective evidence is clear; it's only a matter of time before this translates into dramatically shifting voter patterns. What a glorious day that will be -- and what a great day for America and all Americans.

OK... they see Obama’s a jive turkey.

But, far as I can tell, he’s still THEIR jive turkey.

He sure ain’t mine.

I don’t know how much vote change this translates into.

After all, blacks are something like 13% of the population. A big switch would be a couple of percent, which is significant, but maybe that can be had (according to recent reports) just as easily from the illegal vote.

The problem with Obama amongst African-Americans is not that he’s black, it’s that he’s Red.

Saw the mentioned article earlier. Upon further reflection, I have another thought about it. My original take was that they were referring to Obama as the deadbeat. Now, I wonder: Do they mean he’s leading deadbeats?

Could be. Or it could be that both of these interpretations fit him accurately...

The reason why Democrats can still successfully portray the GOP as white racists is that the myth allows Black Americans to play the victim.

If there is Jim Crow era segregation, it is not whites, but blacks, doing it to themselves.

“But, far as I can tell, he’s still THEIR jive turkey.”

“He’s THEIR jive turkey” also applies to Progressives in the population.

They don’t care how much he jives or damages, don’t care how much Progressives in the Democrat party jive, damage, or endlessly claim racism, they LOVE progressives and will always be a part of the revolution, always.

(How obnoxious.)

IMHO

bigtime Achilles heal

So why aren't the 'pubs taking advantage of it? Taking stands against invaders (both legal and illegal) who rob entry level jobs from inner city young adults, talking about policies which nuture small business formation and success, talk about not spreading community resources too thin. That would inspire.

Instead, Romney refused to campaign in fragile neighborhoods. That was racist, refusing to acknowledge the aspirations of challenged individuals and communities.

The 'pubs aren't doing much better this time. They're acting like WINNING means collecting more money than the dems do.

I hope things change, either because of election results or because all US citizens are fed up with the elite puppet masters. However, I do fear that candidates have to jump through so many hoops to be nominated for major office that they're already corrupted and out of touch when they get there.

Yes. And every time these pointed racially charged ads escape outside the narrow community they intend, more potential voters not influenced by the constant droning and race-baiting choose another path.

Frankly, it loudly smacks of desperation and the lack of legitimate counter to claims the Democrats have hurt blacks more than helped them.

The libs know it is their Achilles heel. That is why Obummer and the party are shifting to Hispanics. If he gets his amnesty, they are planning to use the same threats and intimidation on Hispanics. They will misuse and abuse the Country first with amnesty and then misuse and abuse an entire lower educated class of new voters to maintain their Marxists agenda. Their modus operandi is to trash everything along the way to their disastrous Marxist objective.

Sadly, not bloody well likely. They will just conclude that Obama was too incompetent to actually deliver on his promises of Skittles-pooping unicorns. And they will resume their quest for someone who can.

.....jump through so many hoops to be nominated for major office that they're already corrupted and out of touch when they get there.

I submit that "getting the ghetto ticket punched" by venturing into areas where great hay can be made by liberal media about a candidate's insensitivity, flub or whatever is pointless.

It isn't up to a Republican candidate to clean these areas up and make them better before he's even given a chance or elected for that matter.

Speaking before the NAACP as a rite of passage is pointless, unless you're a Democrat and then you could go in there acting like a former slave and fake an accent and get accolades for it (Hillary Clinton).

Until they start taking stock of their lot in life and the promises made and not kept by Democrats, no amount of Republican conciliation will be fruitful.

I never get excited about these stories. If you read between the lines Obama is losing support because he is not statist enough. No matter what group it is, whenever these stories pop up about Obama losing support it is because the groups want more handouts, more government control, and more more leftism. They aren’t going to switch votes to conservatives. At best they will not vote or vote for a third party.

Republicans need to seize upon the successes but seem afraid to do so.

Here in GOP held Michigan, black unemployment is falling at a faster rate than any other group. Its not because Rick Snyder or the MIGOP spends a lot of time pandering to blacks. Its because the bulk of job creation just happens to be where blacks are. Lots of new construction in Detroit both private and public is happening only because the GOP has considerable control over the city.

Lots of 6 figure earners are transferring to Detroit from NY and Boston etc. They pump a lot of money into the lowest levels of the economy. My friend in Mexicantown pays a local kid (20 something) $100 per month to mow grass and shovel snow. The kid has a dozen other customers in the neighborhood and probably earns $1500 per month. He in turn spends that money in the area. True trickle down economics.

A developer has bought the Packard plant, paid the taxes, and clean up has begun for a planned half billion dollar development over the next decade. Developers are competing for the Tiger stadium site. As part of the bankruptcy deal, creditors got a desired spot on the Detroit river and intend to build a luxury hotel. Just the other day, clearing of land began for the new bridge to Windsor.

And lets not forget other GOP/Conservative policies that have been good for Detroit. Open carry/SYG laws combined with a GOP appointed pro self defense police chief is driving a plummeting crime rate. Charter schools are outperforming public by light years and producing many ivy league caliber students.

Obama will be in Detroit tomorrow claiming credit and outside Michigan, not one republican will speak up about the big lie.

Overall they are thirteen percent but in many Southern states and in key northern cities they are one-third of the total vote. A swing of a few percentage points from 92% to say 85% would make a tremendous difference.
