11 Alive has released the results of a new SurveyUSA poll that for the first time in their series of polls shows Michelle Nunn in the lead for the Georgia Senate race against David Perdue. The poll shows Democrat Michelle Nunn with 48%, Republican David Perdue with 45%, and Libertarian Amanda Swafford with 3%. 4% of voters remain undecided. While the margin of error is 4.2%, meaning that the two could conceivably be tied, thats likely no consolation.
Looking at the polls crosstabs, the electorate is assumed to be 61% white, 27% black, 7% Hispanic and 5% Asian. That potentially underestimates the black vote, which is overwhelmingly in favor of Nunn, by about two percent. And, if the poll is correct in reflecting the ultimate vote, a 50/50 split among undecideds could bring Nunn a win without a runoff.
The pollsters note how Perdue is losing support from groups previously on his side:
Week-on-week, Nunn has gained ground among men, where she now trails by 3. (Five weeks ago, she trailed among men by 19.) Among Independents, Nunn has closed to within 6 of Perdue (she had trailed by 28 points among Independents in August). In greater Atlanta, Nunn had led by as few as 10 points, but today leads by 22.

If we lose this one, I can identify the moment. It’s when Perdue bragged about outsourcing jobs to foreign countries. That’s even worse than supporting open borders. What a dumb ass! I wish that Jack Kingston had been the nominee.
Doesn’t say why or what changed - unique maybe to this race, since almost all others around have been sloooooowly trending repubbie.
What Georgian in their right mind would vote to keep Harry Reid as Senate Majority leader?
Sam Nunn was a decent man, and a friend of the military. I hope Georgians understand that this isn’t the same person.
Wisconsin governor race trending away from us also. We are being outspent and outworked.
There is an all out Atlanta media blitz to give the democrat party some momentum.
To be honest, the Georgia republican party deserves to get their rear ends handed to them for the way they have been treating and leading for the past 10+ years.
Perdue won’t be great, but Nunn will be an 0bama robot catering to his every wish. Perdue’s out-sourcing history (and seeming pride in it) could well be his undoing.
They don't or she wouldn't be where she is in the polls.
Maybe we can trade them. They get Nunn in and we get Barrow out.
To be honest, that's not how elections work. The Ga Republican Party won't suffer, WE WILL. Elections. Logic. Not. Emotion.
They don’t understand that his daughter is not the same politically. They are voting for the name.
You are correct.
That's the problem with nominating businesspeople with nugatory records in politics. Their reflex is to make a pitch to the wealthy shareholders who sign their paychecks. Unfortunately, that's an entirely different audience from the average voter who might, in many cases, have an opposing interest.
Jack Kingston would have won this.
Still, SurveyUSA has seemingly been more democratic than other independent pollsters this cycle.
You have to remember Georgia has a run-off if no one reaches 50%, and the run-off electorate is always much smaller and more Republican than the general election one. The Libertarian Party candidate is holding both under 50%, and it really doesn’t matter if Nunn gets a plurality, she’ll be toast in a run-off.
It’s the same thing that happened in 2008 with Saxby Chambliss and Jim Martin. Martin came so close to Chambliss in the general, and got completely crushed in the run-off.
If the carrrpet muuncher Nunn wins the Senate seat its par for the course for the Republicans.
And the Democrats will spin it that its a major defeat for the conservative agenda.
I was a Jack Kingston man anyway.
There are not too many rational voices left on Free Republic, but yours is certainly one of them. When I was in combat, I had little trouble identifying the enemy, they were the little dudes shooting at me. In this environment, that is anyone associated with the Democrat Party. It’s not that hard to figure out.
Which is why you need to vote Perdue.
