Yesterday, unnamed administration officials leaked the good news that Turkey would allow us to use their air bases to attack IS forces in Syria and Iraq:
Also Sunday, officials confirmed that Turkey agreed to let U.S. and coalition fighter aircraft launch operations against ISIS militants in Iraq and Syria from Turkish bases, including Incirlik Air Base in the south. U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, who has been traveling in South America, has said the U.S. wanted access to the Turkish bases.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss private talks between the Americans and Turks.
Great news! Except...it isn't true.
Washington Post:
Turkey denied Monday that it has reached a new agreement to allow the United States to use the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey in the fight against the Islamic State militant group, contradicting Obama administration officials.
Turkish officials said talks on the subject are continuing, news agencies reported from Ankara, the Turkish capital.

I saw Susan Rice on PMSNBC as I was flipping around Sunday morning. I didn’t stop to listen but apparently she was there to explicitly lie and say Turkey was allowing U.S. forces to use air bases in southern Turkey.
So this morning Turkey is out contradicting her.
I guess this is the only channel that will have her on after the Bengazi disgrace.
I’m really not sure how Barry thought he could get away with this. Or has he really left the war effort in the hands of children?
Jeeze, at least Clinton just let the interns b*** him, Obama is letting them run the Pentagon while he plays golf.
Agreed. Read an article here yesterday about Turkey supposedly being agreeable for us using air bases but it was worded weird. It was clear to me there was no agreement and that it was just more lies.
Children, raise your hand if you think BO is genuinely committed to defeating ISIS . . . or if you think he is only responding to public opinion which supports action against ISIS . . . for now?
No one can convince me that 0bola is not sympathetic to ISIS, what little action taken so far is strictly for show.
I'm not sure BO will even go that far. Of course, we don't know if it is he or Valarie Jarrett who is calling the shots. My bests are on Valarie.
I agree with you.
Both the Turks and Obama are behind ISIS. ISIS has become a PR problem for Obama, so he has some damage-control to do. Hence the pinprick attacks that aren’t really stopping anything.
Remember when GW sent the Green Beret in and overthrew the Taliban in a few weeks? That isn’t happening here. ISIS is, I believe, still doing what it was intended to do. The unfortunate public head-chopping is just collateral damage.
I think Turkey is behind ISIS. I think Obama doesn’t know what he is doing.
My bets on VJ also.
Turkey is clearly behind ISIS.
The following is just my opinion, and I toss it out there so that someone can tell me I’m wrong:
I have long assumed the Sauds and State were also involved. (I think Benghazi points to State involvement). Now they are saying Qatar but I’m not sure that eliminates the Sauds. If State and CIA are involved, almost certainly the Sauds are involved.
As for Obama himself, I of course believe him to be a figure-head, just the face for whoever is the ruling coalition behind him. But they are in bed with the Turks and Sauds, so maybe it amounts to the same thing. The Sauds are more sensitive to PR than would be the Turks, I think they understand American politics more than do the Turks.
This is all just my opinion, of course, and I read with interest the opinions of my friends here. I believe, for State and the Sauds, the purpose was to bring down Assad and drive a physical wedge between Iran and Syria, closing Iran’s window to the Mediterranean. In effect, this was the first shots of the war on Iran. It had the additional advantage of redirecting our jihadist enemies against our other enemies. The purported interview with the Saudi intel chief, referencing his conversations with the Russians, pointed to this I believe.
For the Turks, ISIS is the battering ram that prepares the ground for eventual Turkish control whether direct or indirect. So the motives for the various partners are in harmony but not identical.
I guess we have to pretend we ain’t fighting Turkey for now
It’s too bad Bill O’Reilly did not have the guts to raise this question when he interviewed the “Dear Leader”.
I have heard it said that Turkey has a Kurdish problem with riots and, like Obama, they also intend to remove Assad from power in Syria. So, they (allegedly) will let ISIS destroy the Kurds at their border and then grow in power to destroy Assad.
I have no way of knowing if that is true.
