Shaquille O'Neal is 7'1" and perhaps the most physically imposing player the NBA has ever seen.
Yao Ming, at 7'6", dwarfs him in a photo posted to Shaq's Instagram.
Yao wasn't just tall, he was historically, exceptionally tall even by NBA standards.

Our initial theory was that Yao gained weight, resulting in a size disparity that made him appear taller than Shaq than he used to be.
But then we went back and looked at some pictures, and it's clear that Yao made Shaq look small on the court too.

It could be argued that the tall Chinese are archaic genetic relics of the long gone days when the men had to hunt dinosaurs with spears.
Bill Russell is in his 70’s, Kareem mid 60’s, Walton in his 60’s.
Well that’s 3, but the fact remains that you seldom see a really tall 80 year old, or even 70.

Oh my God I hope we live longer than that. I’m 6’-8”, my dad is 6’-10’ (age 60), and I have cousins that are all 6-4’-6’-6”. We come from a long line of six and a half to seven foot swedes going back a few hundred years.
I hope you do too. I was just making the point of the lack of very tall old folks.

Believe it or not, his first car was a Honda Civic. Of course, it was modified a bit. The front seat was removed and he drove from the back seat.
I remember reading that in the paper many moons ago.
