Shaquille O'Neal is 7'1" and perhaps the most physically imposing player the NBA has ever seen.
Yao Ming, at 7'6", dwarfs him in a photo posted to Shaq's Instagram.
Yao wasn't just tall, he was historically, exceptionally tall even by NBA standards.

Our initial theory was that Yao gained weight, resulting in a size disparity that made him appear taller than Shaq than he used to be.
But then we went back and looked at some pictures, and it's clear that Yao made Shaq look small on the court too.

was on a flight from Hartford to Philly once and Manute Bol was on (7’7””) the plane. He looked so uncomfortable, even sitting in First.
Being that tall is not all roses, I guess.

How is his speed and reactions?
Tall sure. But can he play well enough in the pro’s to make his height effective?
Being 6’4” is a pain sometimes, esp when traveling. Can’t imagine being taller.
It you ever meet Shaq in real life, as in stand next to him, you’ll really be shocked by how big he is. And not just how tall — he is just proportionally a huge human being. He’s just ginormous.
Shaq was a gentle giant when he played. As much as he got hammered, he rarely if ever retaliated.
Maybe he has them made that way because he’s still growing. < /sarc>
Manute Bol, the Dinka tribesman. When he came to the US to play ball his fellow Dinka’s assumed the lions got him.

I saw him get out of his car at a Bullets game once. From a distance I thought it was one of those modern art skinny iron statues. Then it started moving. Went up to the car, it was a BMW that had the front driver’s seat removed, he was driving from the back seat.

I have done some work with the Basketball Hall of Fame. They are all giants. They are tall and even the ones you think are skinny, are “thick.”
And generally, they are all pretty nice in private. Even Rodman...(who was remarkably nice and funny.)
That looks like more than a 5 inch difference. Maybe Shaq is slouching.
I’d like to see Tom Cruise in that shot.
