WASHINGTON — A Marine quick reaction force based in Spain will inject a shot of airlift capability into U.S. efforts to fight an Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the Pentagon said Wednesday.

The 100 Marines and sailors from the Special Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response Africa, based in Morón, Spain, were scheduled to pass through Senegal late Wednesday and land Thursday in Monrovia, the Liberian capital.

Some 3,200 soldiers will arrive in Liberia late this month to set up treatment centers and help with logistics in the fight against the deadly virus, but the small, fast-moving team of Marines can fulfill some of the most pressing needs in the meantime.

The task force will arrive with four MV-22 Osprey aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and landings, and 2 KC-130 tanker aircraft that are capable of carrying supplies and personnel to remote runways, Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said.

My prediction is that we’ll be having 100 or so dead military personnel from these (racist) efforts...perhaps more.

Then we’ll hear the Palestinian stupidogram. “Oh that’s so out of proportion” to the thousands of Africans who have died. We must be racists.

n a few weeks the Army will take over from them.

“The 100 troops — mostly Marines, along with some Navy corpsmen — are part of a force of up to 3,600 U.S. troops that could deploy to West Africa to help efforts to stem the spread of the deadly Ebola virus. The outbreak has so far claimed more than 3,000 lives and could infect 1.4 million more.
So far, about 350 troops are on the ground now, running laboratories, setting up treatment facilities, training healthcare workers and assisting with logistics.

The Marine unit will provide supply and transportation assistance for the anti-Ebola effort until Army units arrive later this month to take over the possibly year-long mission.”

Besides getting infected themselves, just what are American Marines going to do that the locals couldn’t do themselves?

We know who they are and they fought with terrorists but we have to wait until they commit a terrorist act here. I’m not buying it.

I've raised the same question regarding the deployment of the 101st Airborn to Liberia. At the same time we're quietly deploying a 2,500 man Marine rapid deployment force to Kuwait.

have you not seen the Navy and marine commercials?

Listen as they say they are to protect freedom etc around the world.

It’s disgusting, just like the Maine commercial where they storm a beach and then hand out aid boxes.

then at the end they say they are committed to the fair equal treatment of all.

It’s pathetic

Interesting "Shield," though no "Operation Tarzan" or "Jungle Storm," to attend this trainwreck. Any volunteers for the USO Canteen down at West Point?

West Point, of course, has a whole 'nuther meaning in Monrovia.

Not a mission for sex-workers, either. The eight now-dead Liberian soldiers reported in the past 100 hours, or so, are attributed to contact with one prostitute's visit to their barracks more than a month ago.

The stupid ass Republicans could really garner some serious attention if they immediately came up with a bill to guarantee that US Military personnel engaged overseas in this battle with Ebola are guaranteed certain benefits and not shunted off to the side like the people who were shot by Nidal Hassan and treated so contemptuously with the “workplace violence” categorization of that obvious terror attack.

This would be really getting out in front of this issue, in a very real fashion and would be an excellent PR (and real) move. But they don’t have a freaking functioning set of neurons among them and couldn’t come up a creative idea if it was rammed up their nostrils.
