From the big house to the U.S. House?
At 87 years old and after serving nearly a decade in prison, former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards sees nothing unusual about mounting a return to public office.

TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; Government; Politics/Elections; US: Louisiana
KEYWORDS: democrats
Edwards is running against eight other Republicans and two Democrats in Louisiana's "jungle primary system." Under the system, the top two vote-getters advance to a run-off if nobody wins 50 percent of the vote.

Edwards is the type of Democrat who sees elected office as a means to loot the State of Louisiana and her people. Completely without ethics or conscience - its just business to Fast Eddie.
Much different than the hardcore Socialist Democrats who are all about control and power, (although they also tend to loot the state).
I will vote against either variety, but the socialists are the true enemies of America. Edwards is merely corrupt.

Eighty is too old to run for office. So is sixty. FIFTY is much better.
Let the good times roll for those who can STILL roll, and most importantly, get up off the floor by themselves...without the need of a crane.

Having grown up in Louisiana I can almost guarantee he will be elected.
If he had run for office while in prison, he would have been elected.

This geriatric crook is an attention addict. He should be spending his dwindling days in repentance before he must give an account of how he spent his time on earth.

When I read the headline I first thought it was about John Edwards; I did not know Edwin was still among us.

There was a writer in South Louisiana who wrote that ‘politics’ is viewed by the people of South Louisiana as a ‘sport’ or a ‘game’. It’s true. They seem to love crooks when they run for office.
I remember the first time Fast Eddie ran against David Treen in the late 60s. There was a televised debate in New Orleans. Fast Eddie’s big statement that night was, “Yes, I admit that I am a crook. But, you see, that is the problem with Mr. Treen. I admit that I am a crook. Mr. Treen refuses to admit that he, too, is a crook!” He was elected! ROFL

Well he definitely has a couple ‘standing up for him’.
When she rares back and her chest swells up with pride(?) his message is ‘loud and clear’.
Even though 80, what better way to make up for 10 years of incarceration than to go back to stealing where he knows best.
You don’t expect him to learn a ‘new trade’ such as robbing banks or doing muggings in NO now do you?

Every time he left public office the coffers of Louisiana were full. He may be a crook, but he was not bad for Louisiana. I’d vote for him if I lived in his district.

Edwin Washington Edwards (born August 7, 1927) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party
---SNIP---
Edwards was found guilty on seventeen of twenty-six counts, including racketeering, extortion, money laundering, mail fraud and wire fraud; his son Stephen was convicted on 18 counts. "I did not do anything wrong as a governor, even if you accept the verdict as it is, it doesn't indicate that," Edwards told the press after his conviction. On his way to prison he said, "I will be a model prisoner, as I have been a model citizen". From 2002 to 2004 Edwin Edwards was incarcerated at the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Edwards' sometime co-consprirator, Cecil Brown, a Eunice cattleman, was convicted for his part in the payoffs in 2002.

We have a winner! and we wonder why the world is up side down and we are riddled with liars, cheats, etc. in all ranks of politics.
Hey all is okay if he brings home the bacon. He puts me on welfare so I will stomach everything else he does. As long as I get mine who cares what he does.

I remember, vaguely, that during his first term he accepted a $100,000 bribe but wasn’t prosecuted because he declared the funds on his income tax. Again, the details escape me, but I’m positive I remember that on the local news back then.
