Ted Cruz to campaign for Pat Roberts

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) will campaign for Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) later this week, Roberts's campaign announced Monday. The tea party star becomes the latest well-known Republican to join the effort to rescue Roberts, who polls show is trailing independent candidate Greg Orman.

The Texas senator will help launch a Roberts campaign bus tour on Thursday. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) will also join the effort.

"To stop the liberal Harry Reid-Barack Obama agenda, we must win the Senate Majority – and we can’t do that without Pat Roberts back in the Senate," Cruz said in a statement.

An NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday showed Roberts trailing Orman by 10 points. Orman has not said which party he would caucus with if the majority comes down to him.

Is Roberts considered a RINO?

He really shouldn't be. He votes reliably conservatively on the whole. The problem with Roberts is that he's also part of the "establishment" wing and is kind of the poster boy for "in Washington too long and out of touch with his state".

Will the GOPe stop attacking conservatism now? See Thad.

Comparing Roberts’ situation to Thad is silly.

Roberts is conservative. It’s just my opinion but there should be better targets for conservatives to target.

Seems there would be much better targets for the tea party to being down. I don’t understand their reasoning on this one. They opened the door for a liberal.

Roberts is the GOPe’S candidate, who could not generate a majority of the primary voters. Now he can’t seem to generate a majority of voters in Kansas, one of the most conservative states in the nation. This election should not be competitive. Roberts and the GOPe got what they wanted and they are failing.

Roberts is not the most conservative candidate, but...

Somebody yesterday posted his Heritage ratings for the past few years and there was a marked shift to the conservative side this year.

Past couple years he was in the 50s and 60s with Heritage, IIRC...

Still better than the scoundrel Orman but I despise these old fools for playing us for fools.

You must be a Democrat troll. Roberts is conservative, Kansans know it. Nice try.

The sad thing is the establishment in the party (I’m thinking McConnel and his ilk not necessarily Roberts) will never do something similar for Cruz and the like (although there are few like Cruz in the Senate which is sad in of itself)

The elitists have no honor and no sense of party unity despite their protestations to the contrary. So we know what I wrote above is true.

With all that said there really is no choice when it comes to Roberts and conservatism. He’s not perfect but he’s no Mconnel or Cochran. (Sad even THAT distinction needs to be made)

It’s just a fact. Any “conservative”’who votes against Roberts at this point is no conservstive at all. Certainly it’s understandsble how Roberts got himself in this situation, but the “Independent” alternative is far worse in this case. Far worse no debate.

It’s time to stop advocating or supporting Robert’s demise. Again he’s no Mconnel or Cochran or even Corker. The worst that can be said about him is that he has declared (for tax purposes) his primary residence is in Virginia.

I realize he’s out of touch with Kansas’ people but we have a SC nomination coming up (probably shortly after the elections) you can bank on it. Get some perspective people.

I am not a fan of Roberts. He’s just the better of the two.

And if he can help pull the senate away from Obama, I would be voting for him. It’s that simple for me.

We would have agreed before the primary. I would like to throw most these bums out. I am looking at “where are we now?”

Roberts or no Roberts those can be filibustered and blocked. The question is if McConnell and McCain and Graham and the rest will do it.

No one's going to do it if the Pubbies don't have a majority in the Senate. That's my point.

The weak-kneeed elitists won't feel comfortable enough to impose filibusters if they don't have a majority. Look what happened with Cruz and his efforts to block funding of Obamacare for proof of that.

They won't feel comfortable and they will point to their minority status as an excuse to not act. They will probably go so far as to cite Ried's nuclear option this past year, using that as an excuse also (even though that rule change doesn't prohibit filibusters for court nominations.)

These are weak-kneeed, cowardly traitorous people we are talking about here who will use any convenient sounding excuse to shirk their Constitutional duty, all in the name of political correctness. We can't give them any more excuses than they can already manufacture. With a majority in the Senate their cowardice will be on full display should they try to avoid filibustering SC nominees. Even Joe Uninformed voter will get that.

I just realized I misspoke in my last post. I’m too used to the R’s being in the minority.

If the R’s control the Senate then they control the Judiciary committee. So Obozo’s nominees will never make it out of committee to even be fillibistered. Much less voted on.

That is, if the traitorous cowards do their job. But of course that’s a lot harder to shirk if they have a majority for the reason I explained before (such cowardice will be on full display even to the low information voter)

I understand wanting to take down a particular candidate for strategic reasons but this “conservative” jihad to take down the whole party is a suicide mission.

Thanks. Very well said.

If some people had their way, we’d have one or two Republicans in the Senate and maybe five in the House.

"Roberts has the same problem that several other current and former Senators have: he has not 'lived' in the state he supposedly represents."

Does that mean conservatives should stay home, and let a democrat get elected?

Tea Party has given victories to RINO’s yet the GOP-e kicks the TP to the curb when its convenient. A bunch of sad sacks of shiite.

So why can’t Roberts generate a majority of the Republican Party or Kansans?
