Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) will campaign for Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) later this week, Roberts's campaign announced Monday. The tea party star becomes the latest well-known Republican to join the effort to rescue Roberts, who polls show is trailing independent candidate Greg Orman.

The Texas senator will help launch a Roberts campaign bus tour on Thursday. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) will also join the effort.

"To stop the liberal Harry Reid-Barack Obama agenda, we must win the Senate Majority – and we can’t do that without Pat Roberts back in the Senate," Cruz said in a statement.

An NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday showed Roberts trailing Orman by 10 points. Orman has not said which party he would caucus with if the majority comes down to him.

If Ted pulls it out of the fire for the RINOs they’ll just hate him more.

Roberts recently had had Palin there campaigning for him, so I doubt that.

Good point. Some Freepers insist on being miserable and trying to make everyone miserable. Here Palin and Cruz has showed up for Roberts - meaning Roberts wanted them to. And yet, some around here will continue to say Roberts should lose........

Is Roberts considered a RINO?

Cruz as a team player, as he should be in certain instances. If he wins the GOP nomination in 2016 he has a stronger claim that the GOP-e should support him in return.

Well Roberts has the right people supporting him. Run some attack ads defining his opponent as a Obama policy supporter and he just might pull it out.

I don’t see any reason why people shouldn’t show up for Roberts. He won his primary fair and square, and is far from being a major problem in the Senate. I’d probably vote against him the primary, but be there in November. There are races I might feel differently, but not this one.

We can’t give up a fairly solid vote in the Senate like this one.

GOPe fail. Calling in the tea party conservative big guns. Will they stop attacking us more than they do Democrats now? I doubt it.

I understand wanting to take down a particular candidate for strategic reasons but this “conservative” jihad to take down the whole party is a suicide mission.

Roberts is not the most conservative candidate, but he is better than the Democratic in Independent clothes.

Very well said, and right on the money. And another thing - those of us who understand your sentiments above - always run the risk of being called a RINO lover and GOP-e hack and shill on FR - simply by stating the wisdom you did above.

I don’t see any reason why people shouldn’t show up for Roberts

Because Roberts has the same problem that several other current and former Senators have: he has not 'lived' in the state he supposedly represents.

Some have already been sent packing: Blanche Lincoln, for one.

That is an overt example of politicians becoming so ingrained in Washington that they move to be closer to the hog trough.
