Shouldn't they already have a plan in place and know how to contain it? They are saying don't worry we got this and then out of the other side of their mouth they are saying we need to figure out how to contain this?

Quarantine.

By the way, if they can’t control Boko Haram running wild all over the country, how do we know they actually contained Ebola?

Stunned by the entrance of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, into America..

Why would they be stunned? Do they forget who is POTUS? If atomic bombs exploded all over the US it wouldn't surprise me. If he went and played golf after it happened it wouldn't surprise me.

How about they grabbed Sawyer and confined him as soon as he got off the plane (in a car to hospital which he vomited in back seat and infected and killed the car driver)

Nigeria fast recognized he was insanely TRYING to infect people with whom he had contact- most of whom were medical professionals - which he did successfully- urinating on hospital staff and infecting a nurse when he removed his IV (presumably blood spray)

A strictly enforced quarantine. Which will NEVER be able to happen in this country thanks to political correctness.

I’m seeing a shocking amount of common sense coming from our government this morning.

Obola just wants to find out what they did so he can make sure we don't do it.

Three elements in successful containment:

  1. Quick identification of the carrier and contacts.
  2. Placing the same under quarantine.
  3. Monitoring for 21 days or more to ensure they were disease free before letting them back into the general public.

We couldn't do #1, because that would be considered profiling. Plus it might disproportionately affect people of color.

If we did #2, we would have to keep them in five star hotels or isolated hospital wings because, otherwise, they might get their feelings hurt or feel stigmitized.

As for #3, it would have all the disadvantages of #1 and #2.

with all those wealthy princes and widows there, it’s no surprise they’ve found the means to contain it.

A couple of interesting things in the article:

The man who imported Ebola into US was found to have travelled to Liberia without informing the authorities and did not disclose the nature of his ailment to the nurse that attended to him. Reports from Texas yesterday said that the Nurse who attended to the man has also taken ill for Ebola in Texas.

I hadn't heard this. Has anyone seen confirmation elsewhere?

A spokesman for Texas Health Presbyterian said the patient had walked into a Dallas emergency room on September 26, without knowing that he contacted the deadly virus and left after he was treated. He then returned to the facility on September 28 where it was determined he likely had Ebola and was isolated. He tested positive Tuesday, health officials said.

I think this is BS. The guy knew he had been exposed to Ebola. He helped take a woman to the hospital, was turned away, and she died that night.

There has been an extensive campaign in West Africa to tell people what Ebola looks like and how it is transmitted. He would have to be living under a rock to not know he was exposed.

And he didn't tell the nurse.

So, is ebola like a bad flu or something?

What’s the big deal?

This is one of the reasons why I think this Ebola scare is just another in the long line of Avian Flu, Swine Flu, SARs, Flu du Jour scares.
With a reported very high mortality rate (70%?), and with periodic outbreaks in third world hell-holes (apologies to any Liberian, Sierra Leone, or Nigerian posters out there ... by the way -- I am still waiting for my millions of dollars for helping out that Nigerian prince awhile back...) - wouldn't they all be dead by now if this disease was that contagious? Or millions of people dead? Those areas really aren't known for the most stringent sanitation conditions. This is not the first time there was an Ebola outbreak. Yes, this disease is deadly and virulent. But it seems to take its toll (perhaps a few thousand this time in Liberia) - and then dies out. The seasonal flue bugs seem to take out more than that each year.

That is not to say that I don't trust the CDC, and that this Administration sucks for not applying sensible air travel restrictions from the infected areas -- but I just don't see this as the 'Great Plague'.

This is not some new disease. It is hold and happens every year in Africa......yes....every year....

They know how to contain....quarantine.

Wanna guess....this trip and "expertise" will cost us a million bucks.

Then there's the research grants....and on and on and on...

What a waste of tax dollars and wasted precious time. But, noooooo, have to be PC. It was possible to stop it weeks/months ago by banning anyone that had been to Africa within 30 days from entering the US.

Patient 0’s family was supposed to stay in their apt but less than 24 hours they were caught going out. I pegged that yesterday. Now they’re being told they’ll go to jail if they go out again. Ha, as if the city jail has an isolation unit. If there aren’t US troops surrounding the apt., they’ll be out again. Wait, our troops are in Africa. Better, yet, put them all in a proper Level 4 unit.

That apt. complex owner will have a hard time finding new renters. I’d have already moved out and put that October rent on someplace 50 miles away.
