NEW YORK (AP) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio signed an executive order on Tuesday that expanded New York City's living wage law, increasing the hourly rate to $13.13 from $11.90 for workers who do not receive benefits.

The significant expansion, which will cover thousands of previously exempt New Yorkers, fulfilled a campaign promise made by de Blasio, who became the city's first Democratic mayor in a generation when he took office in January. It strengthened a law that was approved by the City Council in 2012.

It boggles my mind that basic economics is so foreign to supposedly well educated people.

... And New York’s economy will get worse, and the liberals will be absolutely dumbfounded. And conservatives will sit back and say “well, duh!”. Liberals live in a fantasy world. The problems start when they try to make everybody else live in it too.

‘Man shall not live on bread alone....’

And in this instance “bread” may be translated as “money”.

There is this constant confusion of “wants” and “needs”, which leads to all sorts of misunderstandings and conflict.

A person really “needs” a much more bare minimum than most are willing to accept. The rest of it all goes to feed ego, the “wants”, which are at best, quite ephemeral.

It boggles my mind that liberty is now foreign to this country. Don’t nobody tell me about American exceptionalism. More like delusionalism.

“The executive order, which bypasses the City Council, now directs that commercial tenants at projects that receive more than $1 million in city subsidies will be covered by the living wage regulations.”

hopefully all the shy work lay abouts who keep moving down south form there will go back. I have a family who moved here, and it’s all about welfare, their kids are nothing but trouble makers, and the house which they rent has gone to crap.

Hopefully people like them will move back up north

so companies that rent in subsidized buildings will be required to charge more than their competitors.

Assuming the buildings were subsidized for some public good- well, that’s just hilarious.

I have a friend who wants to move to New York City. Would be a perfect place for her. She has an Obama-Biden bumper sticker on her car.

Nuff said.

they are dangerous as they do not stay in NY

This is very true, unfortunately. Some compare them to locusts. They are certainly a plague on a free society.
