Northeast loses 40% of House seats as people flee high-tax states
Washington Examiner ^ | September 30, 2014 | Paul Bedard

The Northeast, once the nation’s political engine that produced presidents, House speakers and Senate giants including the late Edward M. Kennedy, is losing clout in Washington as citizens flee the high-tax region, according to experts worried about the trend.

The Census Bureau reports that population growth has shifted to the South and the result is that the 11 states that make up the Northeast are being bled dry of representation in Washington.

Critics blame rising taxes in states such as Massachusetts and Connecticut for limiting population growth in the Northeast to just 15 percent from 1983 to 2013, while the rest of the nation grew more than 41 percent.

Conservatives will look at this and see how it supports their anti-tax philosophy, liberals will see this and think that those winning states need to raise their taxes.

This is not good news. All it means is that the south will become more liberal. Massholes carry their ideology in their fanny pack

While fighting against a state income tax in Tennessee a few years ago, the liberals said it wasn’t “fair” that other states had higher tax rates than Tennessee.

Its like any ‘cause’ the left takes on. They envision it applying to someone else and once it hits their home they pull up stakes and move. We see it in taxes and ‘gun control’. Liberals are notoriously stingy and hate paying high taxes even though they want someone else to. Guns, liberals love guns. They just don’t like it that you can own them.

Taxes are just a part of the reason. The North East is far to liberal.

This is what bothers me. They move from the northern states because of the high taxes and want to continue to vote the same way.

I’m heading ‘home’ to Tennessee very soon, and I am going to display my expired Tennessee plates in the car window on the trip down; so people don’t draw the wrong conclusion from my Red Hampshire plates. :-)

Your assumption may be flawed because you assume that it’s the liberals who are moving. Let’s hope that they are the one’s who stay behind because of the “free $hit.” The next census should be very interesting in terms of reapportionment.

You’d be surprised how the southern charm works. There are quite a few yankee teachers at the southern public high school that I work at that have slowly become conservatives. The real wack-jobs end up at places that are already liberal, like Asheville, NC.

Exactly...the influx of ‘Massh*les’ and New Yorkers have changed this state from ‘New’ to ‘Red’.

There should be a five year moratorium on voting by ‘outsiders’ while the conversion process takes hold...
