Dozens of Chinese firms are producing and exporting “tools of torture”, from electric stun guns to metal spiked batons, to countries with bad human rights records, rights group Amnesty International said on Tuesday.

More than 130 companies are involved in producing or trading the equipment, typically marketed to law enforcement agencies, up from about 28 companies a decade ago, Amnesty said. […]

One company, China Xining Import/Export Corporation, which advertises thumb cuffs, restraint chairs and electric stun guns, said in 2012 it had ties to more than 40 African countries, according to Amnesty. The firm could not be reached for comment. …

To the extent it was destroyed is the extent to which the USA was plain lazy.

I agree with you.

Especially when we have plenty of oil HERE.

I will never understand how Nixon, a passionate anti-communist, could pursue a relationship with Mao.

Because he was just pretending to be anti-communist.

Actions designate tyrants, obviously. And the state of the USA is the result of what its leaders let in.

Red China is not so obsessed with riches as much as they are more obsessed with building up their military. State capitalism is in the Communist Manifesto, remember, and trade with the First World is a means to an end—one only has to look at DC to see the results.

I can’t argue with that! :-)

But there is the issue of “dumping” huge amounts of cheap goods that overwhelm the market with the expressed intention of destroying American manufacturing, as well as punitive tariffs and regulations on imports from the USA, and other unfair practices.

One thing fed the other.

The murder, at least, has been pushed under the rug. They are worse with abortion than we are... but maybe not by much. But with the trade came the abatement of many of these purges.

“Maybe we should ask the victims of the police in those African countries.”

Trust me on this, the Africans don’t need Chinese made tools to do hideous things to each other. That’s been going on as long as there have been Africans.

They regularly abort babies for the mere crime of being FEMALE.

This leaves a generation of young men with no prospects for marriage or even a girlfriend.

However...there’s always the army...

An industrious country would use the boost in the buying power of its money to facilitate doing other things that China could not do for it.

And to be fair, in some spheres it IS doing so. Without ultra cheap China equipment would we have an Internet like this connected to everyone on the street who plunks down a ten-spot or two on a smartphone?

Unfair trade is not what hurt the USA; shortsighted business practices that could not see any further beyond their nose than “like what it was like before China, except cheaper” are.

Is everyone turning liberal here when they refer to “Africans”? There are no behaviors that are inherent to any race; this is all culture.

Communists are always serious about their weapons. To think otherwise is to underestimate them.

Since when are communists interested in trade that does not benefit them?

They got their people into government in the USA, and had them do things like institute the highest corporate tax on the whole planet. They intend to make an example of the USA, the only really viable enemy of the tyranny of communism.

I’m no communist, and I’m damned serious about my weapons.

You don’t have to be a communist to be serious about your weapons. Being a communist does not mean that seriousness about weapons has gone out the window notwithstanding; after all, half-hearted weapon construction will not help the worldwide revolution Marx wrote of come to pass. Never underestimate your enemy.

Since when is anybody, unless they are altruistic?

The point is that it dawned on Mao that getting rich was better than murdering crowds. It dawned imperfectly; they still murder vast crowds of the unborn. But they are closer to a civilized state in some ways.

Eh? No they are not. Just because the press refuses to report on their outrages does not mean they suddenly disappeared.

The communist elite were always about enriching themselves either way.

There is not one single cabal “the press” as much as you’d like to theorize. Today those who will bother to click past the borders of the USA will see plenty of news that the domestics don’t carry. Who’s really to blame for such ignorance.

But please do, substantiate that trade has not made a dent in uncivilized practices. Of course you could complain that everybody is suppressing this truth, but then you also admit there isn’t proof.

back-in-the day, i had a TRS 80, a TI, an IBM business machine, and my music equipment was Klipsch, Peavy, Fender, Arp and Kurzweil, all developed and made in the USA.

I will not but anything made in china, and do without some major appliances (or keep fixing the ones I have) rather than new “Made in China” stuff. This is difficult for me as I am a poor widow and don’t have a lot of money to work with.

I do without a lot of gadgets like ipads, tablets, iphone, smartphones, video games, etc and just keep nursing along my old stuff, or buying things at thrift stores and yard sales.

Sometimes we just have to make a decision and stick too it, though it is sometimes inconvenient.

But I can see you have no desire to understand my point of view, so I am not interested in continuing the discussion.

You have no desire to regard actual facts that impact your actual life, and then push the condemnation for the disconnect on ME.
