Vice President Biden acknowledged using a "poor choice of words" after referring to bankers that exploit U.S. troops as "Shylocks."
The vice president used the term during a talk Tuesday to a nonprofit that provides legal aid to those in need. But the term is considered by some to be an anti-Semitic term for Jews, and the head of the Anti-Defamation League put out a statement criticizing Biden.
"Shylock represents the medieval stereotype about Jews and remains an offensive characterization to this day. The Vice President should have been more careful," Abraham Foxman said, while still calling Biden friendly to the Jewish community.

First of all, as you might have noticed, all I have in my vocabulary are poor choice words, so I really can't be held responsible. In trying to apologize for his poor choice of words he continued to say.. And besides, Shylocks, if they don't take advantage of people, making money off of other's ignorance, will they not starve? Take away a Shylock's opportunities, will they not suffer? Shylocks are no different than other humans in doing what you have to do.
If a Republican had said it....
Did he say some of his best friends are shylocks?
LOL
Biden (out loud): I guess I chose my words poorly.
Biden (thinking to himself): What a bunch of thin-skinned Jews!
Shylock is a commonly accepted word in the English language meaning cheap or miserly. Someone protesting the use of it is asinine, even it was joe biden.
Biden’s been playing Average Joe for so long that now he thinks he really is one.
He’s a maroon but I’d love to see him and Hillary fight it out in 2016.
Biden thanked the nuns for their work for health care reform saying in his signature colorful style, The Nuns on the Bus fought like the devil for health care.
Since I don't read Shakespeare, that word was pretty obscure to me and I never knew it had any anti-semitic connotations. Some folks are working overtime to be offended, methinks.
Shylock was the usurous Jewish loan shark in Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice”. It is generally considered to be an anti-semitic slur about Jews controlling the banking system, at a time when it was considered unscrupulous to charge interest on loans. That’s also where the term “pound of flesh” comes from because that’s what Shylock expected from people who couldn’t repay their loans.
This is funny on so many levels I can’t begin.
Okay Joe, fork over that pound of flesh.
Might be a good time to take that trip to the Orient you’ve been talking about.
“some of my best friends are clean well articulate shylocks” J.B.
I was going to include it in my comments but got diverted. Kudos to you for mentioning it.
Slow Joe-soetoro’s impeachment insurance.
Reminds me of the time our college hired a new president and he put his foot in his mouth almost immediately by referring to black students as “underprivileged kids”.
In his apology statement he said, “I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. When I was growing up, we always used words like n*gger, k*ke, and sp*ck and nobody got offended.”
He didn’t last long. They fired him and brought back the old president.
Oh, and did I mention ... this was also Joe Biden’s alma mater???? And he was on the board of directors when it happened????
Its pretty damn funny really .....until somebody shoots you in the face.
Damn hadit with Leftys.
Saw The Merchant of Venice at Royal Shakespeare Theater. The point was not someone being “cheap”.
Biden should resign and go to Israel.....
