The party that’s acted as a bulwark against President Barack Obama’s agenda suddenly looks like it will quickly agree to some of his biggest demands.
House Republicans are poised to extend the Export-Import Bank’s charter well into next year, despite decrying the agency as an antiquated vestige of crony capitalism. They will fund the federal government until mid-December without much of a fight. And, most notably, they are rapidly moving toward giving the White House authority to arm and train Syrian rebels, despite deep misgivings about their ability to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and even deeper distrust of Obama’s foreign policy.
And this is all playing out in the final three days of session before Election Day — in a historically unproductive Congress.
The forthcoming deals represent a big swing on Capitol Hill. Just a year ago, House Republicans were locked in a bitter battle with Obama over repealing his signature health care law, leading to a 16-day government shutdown that left both sides bruised.
Now — with less than 50 days until the midterms — Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Majority Whip Steve Scalise want nothing to do with Washington and its potential drag on Republicans’ sunny electoral fortunes.

Somewhat in their defense, it is not Obama that they are saying Yes to. It is the Central Bankers and the Ruling Elite, who doubtless have some not-so-subtle ways of making them on Offer They Can’t Refuse.
Can we please stop using the terms “Republican” and “GOP”? There is nothing “Republican” nor “GOP” in the minority party. “Whig” or “Republicrats” is a more accurate term.
Perhaps repeated use of the proper terminology will shame them (if that is at all possible) or better yet, show their true colors and leave.

Consider that during the 2008 financial crisis the Bush appointed Secretary of the Treasury was Henry Paulson, former CEO of Goldman Sachs. Ben Bernanke, an easy money Keynesian academic, and another appointee of George W. Bush, was Chairman of the Federal Reserve, and Timothy Geithner was head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (also appointed during the Bush Presidency). When the market melted down in September 2008, Bush let those three Wall Street insiders bail out the bankers at the expense of the US middle class. The alternative would have been bankruptcy for the “too big to fail banks”, the stockholders, executives and bondholders of the banks taking a well deserved financial bath, and the Treasury bailing out only the FDIC insured depositors. The point is, George W. Bush served his masters, just as Barack Obama does.

The money (the carrot, or greed) is one thing, true enough. But I was referring more to the “stick”, or “fear” side of things

One party two names it’s how the good old boys operate.
The only reason the feds went after the Mafia is because they working their side of town.
It’s not that. At least not this time around.
This time around it’s about not doing anything that will negatively impact the GOP’s chances in the election. The GOP took the brunt of the blame for last years shutdown, and they don’t want a repeat of that at this point, with the Senate (and, in the event of a backlash to a shutdown, the House) on the line.
That opening sentence just invites the reader to come on in to fantasyland.
