“But there is one vital element of the domestic violence dialogue that ignites torrents of unwarranted disapproval: an examination of the dynamic of the women who stay with, and even defend, their attackers.”
Awww, you know I thought the author was actually going to broach the taboo subject of female initiators of domestic violence, since it was Rice who got hit first.
This whole thing is so cut and dried... that I don’t understand how the media or anyone at all can be confused about what happened.
A man struck an woman and in this case, struck her hard enough to render her unconscious.
The severity of the blow is incidental. That there is ANY difference of opinion as to what this IS, I don’t GET.
HE broke the law. Whether or not she cares... he DID break the law!!
He did indeed, besides he is a jerk, and that is mildly said
Many of the fans are supporting Ray Rice, after the video was released. This just shows how far gone much of this country is.
“HE broke the law. Whether or not she cares... he DID break the law!!
If what Boogieman asserted above is correct, and I have no idea if it is, didn’t she “break the law” first?
Wait, there is over a billion people who think it is fine to beat your wife or GF or sister, especially after the ‘look’, you know, Muslims.
Also, he appeared to hit her as she was charging at him from across the elevator to hit him again. So, in that case, he didn’t “break the law”, if he was defending himself. He may well have used a bit of excessive force to defend himself, but that’s a world of difference from domestic abuse.
And sometimes “initiating” is enough psychological abuse that a physical response is the only perceived option.
Watch enough episodes of Jerry Springer and you’ll inevitably see women behaving abusively towards men who are merely assumed to have cheated or have actually cheated on their significant others. While some of it may be just an act, some of it is authentic. Whether the cheating happened or not, it’s not enough for a woman or anyone else to think that it’s “okay” to physically harm a man but it happens all of the time! I am in no way condoning violence against women but I most definitely am pointing out that there is a greater scope of domestic violence in America than what the media makes us aware of.
“Wait, there is over a billion people who think it is fine to beat your wife or GF or sister, especially after the look, you know, Muslims.”
Well, the last time I “hit” another person was when I was in 5th grade. Aggressive behavior of that sort is always wrong.
However it has nothing to do with the sex of the person. Probably more women are abusive of men than the other way around.
For a physically challenged person it is not only wrong, it’s also stupid.
Rap music is full of references to laying the smack down on your woman.
So....racist.
Still trying to figure out the difference here with Mike Brown.
Except Brown slugged a cop. Who was armed.
The automatic identification of the "male" as perp is a form of bigotry which has no basis in reality. Yet, much like man made global warming, it is an article of faith that resists all rationality and refuses to die.
Yes, but what may be worse is the reaction when you inform people of those facts. Often, they seem to think that domestic violence by women “doesn’t count” because they are smaller or weaker than men. So, men are just expected to “take it like a man” if a woman decides to beat on him.
Now, if you flipped that around and said “Well women have a higher tolerance for pain (as the feminists love to tell us), so they should just ‘take it like a woman’”, well we can all imagine the reaction that would cause.
How do you know that? Do we have tape of them the entire night?
Agreed. This country is in a death spiral of decaying morality.
The next time my dachshund snaps at me, I’m gonna knock it out! I’m just defending myself.
Well, we have video of them approaching the elevator and what happened in the elevator. Before that, we have witnesses in the public bar they were at. I imagine if Rice was beating his wife in the bar, someone might have noticed and reported that.
If you want to let some smack you around and not do anything, that’s your prerogative, but it doesn’t remove the right of anyone to defend themselves.
