The US Air Force has told a sergeant he will have to leave the military unless he agrees to take an oath with the phrase "so help me God," officials said Tuesday.
In the latest religious controversy to roil the air force, the atheist airman last month was denied his request to re-enlist because of his refusal to swear to God -- and he is now poised to take the military to court, his lawyer said.

So would you apply a religious test to other government positions? The Constitution explicitly prohibits a religious test for gov’t offices and it is clear the spirit of the law would apply to members of the military.
Everyone has a “god” of some kind.
If he’s an atheist, he’d really just be swearing to himself.
I would be surprised if FDR was the first President to add “...so help me God.” But since it isn’t in the oaths contained in the text of the Constitution, I’m surprised it has been inserted into other oaths.
On the other hand, how many people would be willing to bet that the Constitution guarantees everyone “a jury of his peers”?

For many years every one who was sworn into the military whether EM or officer has taken oaths and you do say God.
Anyone who disagrees and wants to change this is another threat to America as you are part of the group who is destroying America. Just recently a military man with 24 years of duty took his daughter to school on the first day. He had his uniform on and was denied entrance into the school by a security type. This is where the refusal to say God leads to. Add the local fireman who ordered every US flag in town to include flags on private property taken down. He is another anti American POS. I want this country back the way it was, and; not what Obama and liberal clowns and the so called minority want/s. This clown basically is desecrating those who died upholding that oath.
Having lied in the past is not a license to lie forever after. Especially if under oath or taking an oath!
