Rep. John Delaney Sets Out To Bring A Trillion Dollars, And Safe Bridges, Back To America
Townhall.com ^ | September 9, 2014 | Ralph Benko

$1.4 trillion are “stranded” overseas. Seventy-five Congresspeople, and growing, from both parties, respectfully led by freshman Representative John Delaney (D-Md), are advancing a plan to retrieve that money.

Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirkson reportedly once said, “A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon, you’re talking real money.” A trillion is a thousand billion.

A million million dollars. $1.4 trillion is approximately seven times the value of the U.S. government’s gold held at the bullion depository inside Fort Knox. Liberating it would be something like a reverse Goldfinger “Operation Grand Slam” times seven. That’s … real money.

Will Congress do this? Some Democrats consider it heretical. Some Republicans are dragging their feet.

Yet its beginning to look like a real possibility. The political implications of doing it are even bigger than the trillion, plus or minus, dollars at stake.

We won’t have great bridges, because most of that trillion will end up in the pockets of the well-connected like the “Stimulus” did

Some of the (civil-engineer-graded C) bridges we drive across are at risk of collapsing. Aviation (D), dams (D) and drinking water systems (D-) reportedly are in sore disrepair.

The problem is not the money that is “overseas” but how the Feds waste the money they do get a hold of and spend. They spend it for votes. Not on the infrastructure. Infrastructure is not sexy. fun, interesting etc. Its dull boring and takes a long time to fix. But hundreds of millions to bring illegal alien kids into the country, house feed and medical them is great for votes. Screws our economy to hell and back but hey winning elections is more important.

As great as this plan appears, we must avoid ways to allow this PRIVATELY owned money to be returned to its rightful owners, the SHAREHOLDERS, who will then deploy it as it best suits their purposes, by which I mean NOT to government and its cronies.

What exactly does a liberal DemocRat mean when they say that?

What a liberal always thinks about, how to take some of that money so he can buy votes with it, this time from unions. The reason why Townhall is mentioning this liberal agenda is that the liberal only wants to tax that already taxed money just a little bit, rather than wholesale confiscation that is the typical liberal agenda.

Taxing the same money again in the US that was taxed already overseas is, of course, predatory, but nothing new there. The 'brilliance' here, really, is that it will be JUST slightly higher than US corporate taxes when you add up the taxes already paid on the money, plus the part the liberals want as well.

Plus, apart from the fact that I don’t understand when they say we have 1.4 Trillion tied up overseas, what exactly they mean from that.

I don’t have as much of an issue with cutting back on my tax money spent against my will to help build mosques or engage in “outreach”, but if we are cutting back on our ship repair facilities in Yokosuka, Japan to funnel money to rats in this country working in unions, or to some equally useless union or welfare program.

What the Dems actually mean though is corporations who are based here but also do business , hire and pay taxes in other countries can legally leave any profits they make in those other countries, They do not pay US taxes on those profits made in other countries. They do pa taxes as required by the countries in which the money was made

Who with any sense would bring back money made off money in other countries so they can pay the highest corporate tax rate in the free world?
insane
Only BO and his adorers.

Too bad the $900 Billion Stimulus that was supposed to be spent on Obama's "Shovel Ready" projects didn't get the bridges fixed.

But it did put hundreds of billions in the pockets of his pals and democrat supporters.

He means they haven't been able to figure out a way to break the laws they passed and get their hands on the money to futher enrich themselves and their pals.

In their minds it's just not fair that some people are able to keep the money they earn.

Too much of the 2007-2008 stimulus went to build parks, go for landscaping, even buy up land to take it off the tax rolls to expand tax-exempt parks. A little went to over-priced union construction, but we saw no major improvement in infrastructure from it. In fact, we still see “OMG, everything is falling apart!” news stories.
