Sarah Palin and September 3rd:How Two Speeches Re-Defined the Planes of Politics
Conservatives4Palin ^ | September 03 2014 | Whitney Pitcher

September 3rd, 2008. It’s a day many of us remember quite well. Governor Palin brought the house down with her RNC speech accepting the Vice Presidential nomination. Not only was her delivery perfectly pitched, her words were revelatory of the Obama presidency:

C-SPAN: Vice Presidential Candidate Gov. Sarah Palin (AK) Full Speech at the RNC

We are now six years removed from this political earthquake, but the prescient aftershocks continue to occur. Four years ago, Stacy Drake and I tag teamed a post highlighting the warnings of Governor Palin in that eventually came to fruition in the first two years of the Obama presidency, as highlighted by this great clip compiled by Stacy:

She Warned You

Some of the faces from that clip may have changed, but the evil still remains. As Breitbart.com highlighted last week, Governor Palin’s RNC speech noted Obama’s lack of strategic planning when it comes to policy (most recently with the evils of ISIS) in spite of the overabundance of political planning and nuance. Governor Palin has been proven correct time and time again over the last six years–from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to "death panels" to quantitative easing. She did what few have done–boldly called exposed the Left for who they are and what political intentions they have.

However, Governor Palin’s message has not only focused the horizontal plane of Left and Right. What separates her message from that of so many others is her articulation of politics on a vertical plane–both in the chasm between the politically connected and the every day American and the hierarchy of the Republican Party. This message of the vertical nature of politics is no better seen than in another September 3rd speech given by Governor Palin, this time in a field in Iowa in 2011:

Former AK Gov. Sarah Palin's Restoring America, Indianola, IA 9-3-2011 - Complete

I’ll let Governor Palin’s own words speak for themselves.

Politicians govern for a season, but political leaders change the dimensions in which their discipline operates, be it business, academics, or politics. From her stand against cronyism in city council chambers when a fellow council member tried to steer garbage removal business to his company to her constant message again crony capitalism to her continual support of constitutional candidates who buck their own party’s establishment, Governor Palin has shifted the conversation. Policies and political action are no longer carelessly measured against a party’s political precedent, but instead against the platform and principles that party claims to stand upon.

In a tangible and literal sense, Governor Palin may choose the contented happiness of riding shotgun in Todd’s Piper Cub Float Plane over the gas-guzzling extravagance of Air Force One, but when it comes to the planes of politics, she has piloted her own path and changed the game.

From the Indianola, Iowa speech:

We sent a new class of leaders to D.C., but immediately the permanent political class tried to co-opt them – because the reality is we are governed by a permanent political class, until we change that. They talk endlessly about cutting government spending, and yet they keep spending more. They talk about massive unsustainable debt, and yet they keep incurring more. They spend, they print, they borrow, they spend more, and then they stick us with the bill. Then they pat their own backs, and they claim that they faced and “solved” the debt crisis that they got us in, but when we were humiliated in front of the world with our country’s first credit downgrade, they promptly went on vacation.

No, they don’t feel the same urgency that we do. But why should they? For them business is good; business is very good. Seven of the ten wealthiest counties are suburbs of Washington, D.C. Polls there actually – and usually I say polls, eh, they’re for strippers and cross country skiers – but polls in those parts show that some people there believe that the economy has actually improved. See, there may not be a recession in Georgetown, but there is in the rest of America.

Yeah, the permanent political class – they’re doing just fine. Ever notice how so many of them arrive in Washington, D.C. of modest means and then miraculously throughout the years they end up becoming very, very wealthy? Well, it’s because they derive power and their wealth from their access to our money – to taxpayer dollars. They use it to bail out their friends on Wall Street and their corporate cronies, and to reward campaign contributors, and to buy votes via earmarks. There is so much waste. And there is a name for this: It’s called corporate crony capitalism. This is not the capitalism of free men and free markets, of innovation and hard work and ethics, of sacrifice and of risk. No, this is the capitalism of connections and government bailouts and handouts, of waste and influence peddling and corporate welfare. This is the crony capitalism that destroyed Europe’s economies. It’s the collusion of big government and big business and big finance to the detriment of all the rest – to the little guys. It’s a slap in the face to our small business owners – the true entrepreneurs, the job creators accounting for 70% of the jobs in America, it’s you who own these small businesses, you’re the economic engine, but you don’t grease the wheels of government power.

So, do you want to know why the permanent political class doesn’t really want to cut any spending? Do you want to know why nothing ever really gets done? It’s because there’s nothing in it for them. They’ve got a lot of mouths to feed – a lot of corporate lobbyists and a lot of special interests that are counting on them to keep the good times and the money rolling along.

All public candidates employ speech-writers - who helped her write this one?

They all employ speech writers. And they tell them what they want to accomplish in the speech, and what points are essential to make. So what they say, is what they mean to say. The writer helps them say it.

Though, if you listen to her speeches, they all sound like her. I’d say she has a lot of input into her text.

Well, now we know why the GOPe hates her even more than the Democrats do.

Yep, Palin’s arrival on the national scene was the first time I genuinely felt some optimism about the country’s future since Reagan.

So much grassroots energy on display back then. 60,000 to 75,000 people showing up for Palin’s campaign stops. Just like thousands stood out in line in freezing temps during the night waiting for her book signings, the following year. Then, there was all that spontaneous excitement and vigor coming along with the tea-party gatherings in 2010, leading to the mid-term election wins.

All that incredible energy, ready to be tapped and directed against Obama’s marxist agenda. And what does the GOP do with that energy? It did everything it could to pour cold water on it. Backstabbed Palin (repeatedly), exiled tea-party proponents from government committees, set up Karl Rove on FoxNews to push the liberal-GOP agenda, and tried deep-sixing every genuine conservative from power.

I no longer have the slightest shred of faith or trust towards the GOP anymore. My lifetime support of the Republican Party died then and there. I’d always watched every GOP convention on tv since I was a teen, but in 2012, I couldn’t even bear to watch a moment. The mere thought made me want to throw up. These are no longer people who share my politics, my ideology, or my values. Not this crowd that now controls the GOP. A crowd that nominates a liberal Massachusetts governmor who stood for government healthcare, cap-and-trade, and helped facilitate homo-marriage. To hell with that.

Why? Are you looking for a speech writer?

Sarah’s speeches sound like she provides most, if not all, input.

Sarah Palin is authentic and a committed Christian with a thorough understanding and devotion to the Constitution. She’ll crush islam and communism. Take America back! Woo hoo!

Thanks - I was wondering if this person was still around. Especially in DC, NY or Hollywood, it would need someone independent and outside the bubble to capture Palin’s style and ideas.

It’s a well known fact that Sarah Palin writes and edits most if not all of her own speeches. It was a source of contention within the McCain campaign at the time, and one of the things that the backstabbers used against her.

But...in this case it was Matthew Scully.

The Man Behind Palin's Speech

However, if you recall, midway through the speech, the teleprompter mysteriously broke, and Palin had to "wing" the rest of it.

Sarah Palin “Winged” Her Speech Because of “Broken” Teleprompter

Looking back at that time, I so despise the libs and the GOP-E, for what they tried to do to her and her family.

Next for GOP leaders: Stopping Sarah Palin

+1. Well summarized! She could have taken it all the way. Don't forget McCain's staff hamstringing her as well....still pisses me off to this day.

They knew how much energy she brought to the people and they would have none of that!

September 3rd, 2008. It’s a day many of us remember quite well. Governor Palin brought the house down with her RNC speech accepting the Vice Presidential nomination.

Her speech had particular significance for me. That's the last time I watched TV.

I had been considering giving it up for sometime, mostly because I was tired of having my IQ insulted by all the tripe that had become TV. Hearing Sarah's speech was a highpoint for me and I figured what better way to end my TV watching career.

I have never regretted giving up TV. I get my news from the truck radio and here on FR. There's been very few times when something major has happened and I did know about it in a timely fashion.

who helped her write this one?

Who wrote something is often interesting to know but irrelevant to the message.

The author of the message is the one who delivers the message.
