My oldest is headed for the ‘stan next month, (the same air base that was overrun by jihadi and blew up several Harriers)
I can’t relay what they can and can’t do if that was to happen again, but it’s not comforting to know I’d be better armed and safe living in chicongo than where he’s going.
I’m third gen jarhead, 6th gen military in family. Every generation has served during conflicts or wars.
I pray it’s gonna be ok for him. Now I know what my mom and dad felt like when I went off to the desert.
Son was in Helmand in 2012, so give yours a big hug for me and all the other Marine moms. Millions still praying for him and your family, especially your wife. Lived in Jville, NC for a bit. Our boys are wonderful.
Prayers for your son and you, BigpapaBo. I completely hear you about the stress of being a parent of a deployed soldier/Marine/etc.. Everyday that I came home I dreaded that I would see a government SUV in my driveway. I even had internet pages book marked which documented casualties in Afghanistan because they would post general information before the papers would. Thankfully, my son made it home physically intact. While I now advocate against people joining the military, I still applaud those who have raised warriors and those who still join out of a deep sense of patriotist. My main message is that these warriors patriotism is being wasted and abused by America’s political leadership.
