Camp Marmal, Afghanistan It is said jokingly, but with an edgy nervousness.
Wisconsin National Guard troops in Afghanistan wonder whether they'll get sent to Iraq next.
Though President Barack Obama and military leaders say there will be only limited involvement in shoring up the country, soldiers are not so sure.
"We talk about that all the time," said Spc. Jasen Pomroy, 44, of Baldwin. "I don't think we want to get into another one if we're trying to finish this one out. Where's it going to end?"
Pomroy worked in a route clearance unit in Iraq in 2010-'11. Many other members of the Wisconsin National Guard's 829th Engineer Co., now stationed in Afghanistan, are Iraq veterans.
They monitor news of the U.S. airstrikes on Islamic State fighters, the potential ramping up of troops to Baghdad, the execution of journalist and Marquette University graduate James Foley, and they wonder where it will lead.

Should B. Hussein Obama be Impeached before or after the Wisconsin National Guard is sent back to Iraq or Afghanistan?
The Clinton-Obama Benghazi Rule is as follows:
1.) ALWAYS STAND DOWN WHEN MUSLIMS ATTACK,
2.) WAIT FOR THE MUSLIMS TO FINISH THEIR BLOOD SPORT KILLING, AND
3.) THEN DO NOTHING.
Since September 11, 2012, Obama has:
* Invoked the field-tested, Clinton-Obama Benghazi Rule for the US in order to allow the ongoing genocide of Christians, and Yazidis in current US Ally Iraq;
* Refused to keep his Word on his Redline in Syria;
* Released the GITMO FIVE to supervise the rapid growth of ISIS;
* Repeatedly proclaimed that HIS American People are war weary;
* Ordered the dismissing of front-line US Military Officers;
* Ordered the downsizing of the US Military to that of pre-WW2 levels;
* Repeatedly promised to unilaterally quit fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan; and
* Invested more hours in playing Golf than visits to the Pentagon.
If Muslim Hussein Obama were to be forced to resign today, would Catholic Joe Biden revoke the Benghazi Rule co-authored by Hillary Clinton and Hussein Obama, and bring the fight to ISIS?
Our military could easily handle (defeat/destroy/conquer/annihilate/etc.) any terrorist or state sponsored army on the planet. The problem isn’t with the military. The problem is with our political leadership which also controls the military.
It sounds stupid, but it wasn’t until my son was deployed to afghanistan that it dawned on me that what controlled him and his unit wasn’t the Army or generals, but it was politicians. Until we the people clean house and get America’s political house in order our military will be hampered by things like unobtainable ROE and objectives. We have the best trained and best equiped military of all times but it’s leadership is cutoff by political ineptitude.
I come from a long line of patriots who have served in the United States military. My father served in Korea. His brothers served in WWII. I served during the Cold War. My son was an infantryman in Afghanistan. However, I would not recommend ANYONE volunteering for service in any branch of the US military until our political leadership is held accountable to the Constitution and We the People.
How does it feel to fight and die for a cause that the Commander in Chief doesn’t believe in? (and actively supports and arms the enemy)
A 44 year old E-4?
You’ll be “impeached” before he will. He’s on the downhill slope of a life of luxury, enormous speaking and consulting fees, a presidential library, junkets to the Middle East, a mansion in Palm Springs and Chicago and a penthouse in New York, “golfing” trips, 5 star dining and more books.
No, there are no more E-5 through E-7 specialists, which is why they’re no longer called Spec/4 but just specialist. I think I was one of the last of the Spec/6s.
My oldest is headed for the ‘stan next month, (the same air base that was overrun by jihadi and blew up several Harriers)
I can’t relay what they can and can’t do if that was to happen again, but it’s not comforting to know I’d be better armed and safe living in chicongo than where he’s going.
I’m third gen jarhead, 6th gen military in family. Every generation has served during conflicts or wars.
I pray it’s gonna be ok for him. Now I know what my mom and dad felt like when I went off to the desert.
Politicians gave up Nam, too.
Son was in Helmand in 2012, so give yours a big hug for me and all the other Marine moms. Millions still praying for him and your family, especially your wife. Lived in Jville, NC for a bit. Our boys are wonderful.
Prayers for your son and you, BigpapaBo. I completely hear you about the stress of being a parent of a deployed soldier/Marine/etc.. Everyday that I came home I dreaded that I would see a government SUV in my driveway. I even had internet pages book marked which documented casualties in Afghanistan because they would post general information before the papers would. Thankfully, my son made it home physically intact. While I now advocate against people joining the military, I still applaud those who have raised warriors and those who still join out of a deep sense of patriotist. My main message is that these warriors patriotism is being wasted and abused by America’s political leadership.
