If you’ve been watching cable news, reading Hollywood celebrities’ tweets, and listening to race-hustling opportunists, you might think that every police officer in America has a finger on the trigger, hunting for any excuse to gun down defenseless youths.
This hysterical nonsense must be stopped.
The Cirque du Cop-Bashing, with Al Sharpton as ringmaster, is working overtime to exploit the deadly incident in Ferguson, Mo. That means stoking anti–law enforcement fires at all costs.
Are there bad cops? Yes. Does the police state go overboard sometimes? Yes. Do the demagogues decrying systemic racism and braying about “assassinations” know what happened when teenager Mike Brown was tragically shot and killed last week? No.
Here’s a reality check. While narcissistic liberal journalists and college kids are all posting “hands up” selfies in hipster solidarity with Ferguson protesters, it’s law-enforcement officers who risk their lives in “war zones” every day across the country.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) reports that a total of 1,501 law-enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the past ten years, an average of one death every 58 hours, or 150 per year. These include local and state police officers, federal officers, correctional officers, and military law-enforcement officers.
Fact: Last year, 100 law-enforcement officers were killed. On average, over the past decade, there have been 58,261 assaults against law enforcement each year, resulting in 15,658 injuries.
Fact: New York City has lost more officers in the line of duty than any other department, with 697 deaths. Texas has lost 1,675 officers, more than any other state.
Just this week, NLEOMF released preliminary fatality statistics from August 2013 to August 2014. Total fatalities are up 14 percent, from 63 last year to 72 this year.

I'd also add that the racial issue is only one of many many layers to this story. Rand Paul, for example, was right about the militarization of the cops. He was dead wrong and a pathetic panderer when talking race on this.

Also, it’s not easy getting into the police academies, lots of nepotism and so on. Yes, they are another union generally and government workers to boot. Stating the obvious, some are good guys and some aren’t.
If they think generating revenue for the police state is important enough to do that, then they reap the consequences.
Why would anyone do that and not approach the passenger side and go to the passenger door?
Walking along the driver side and standing on the driver/traffic side is just asking to be killed. Ya do that for a living, you won't live long.

So if some nutcake steals a combat tank from the local National Guard armory, should all the police agencies be provided tanks just in case?

BTW in the North Hollywood bank robbery, the only two who were killed were the two bad guys...No cops were killed.
All of that is true. What is so frustrating is that pointing out the changing nature of the nation’s law enforcement officers and agencies is considered “cop hating” and race pimping and so on by some Freepers who have let history pass them by.
Obama has transformed a lot in a few years. Time for some of the old dogs to learn some new tricks around here.

I think cops having an AR-15 is completely acceptable, but the tactics of SWAT teams on tens of thousands of raids every year, the MRAPS, the heavy weapons, etc., are all over the top and not needed. Let’s not forget they locked down the entire major metropolitan city of Boston to look for two punks.

you are too stupid to realize that I am not even talking about Ferguson per se….just using that as a jumping off point for a bigger point. Your reading comprehension is below 3rd grade, you have to pump up your own absurdity by flat out lying your sorry ass off about what I’ve said.
If you were anywhere close to my IQ, you would have understood that on the issue of Al and Jesse in Ferguson, you and I agree. You were too unintelligent to even see that. But this issue is much bigger than just Ferguson. This issue is much more complex than just race, though certainly race is an element.
It is not, however, the element I was focusing on. You were in the shallow end, dealing with the easy issue of Ferguson and race pimping. That’s a very easy issue to figure out. So you stay in the shallow end, at the childrens table, and let the adults talk about the bigger picture and more nuanced and textured tangental issues.
