a Pew Research Center report released today shows that a new wave of Puerto Ricans leaving their island's severe economic woes has been finding its way to Central Florida and rapidly changing the ethnic and political makeup of the country's largest swing state. Florida, which has played a crucial role in the past two presidential elections, has 29 electoral votes that could play a crucial role in the 2016 presidential race.

Peurto Ricans have been U.S. citizens since 1917.
Peurto Rica is not a state, but they are a U.S. territory.
So they have the right to travel among the states and relocate at will.
Fortunately the article says they tend to identify as independents and are not a shoo-in for democrats.
Puerto Ricans in FL vote heavily Dem. See the ghetto sh-thole that is Osceola County. Note that the so-called “conservative” statehood party (NPP) us actually comprised of members who caucus with both the Dems and Republicans, and who promise that statehood means “more bennies” from the great white uncle.
Check election results in any area of FL, NY, and NJ settled by our Third World fellow citizens from PR and get back to me. “Independent” my, uh, foot.

I was just told in a private message that Puerto Ricans already vote in our elections. I know they have a rep in congress that they elect, but I didn’t think they voted in our national elections.
They don’t vote for POTUS or VP, they have no representation in either House or Senate, except a non-voting Resident Commissioner in the House.
These are NewYoricans and college students from UCF, now the largest school in the country, that have flipped Orange County from Republican to Democrat.

That state has already swung... as have an increasing number of states.
Since Puerto Rico is a territory of the USA, Puerto Ricans cannot be said to be crashing our borders. In 1917 the US Congress granted US citizenship to Puerto Ricans, so that makes me think there’s free travel between PR and the mainland.
Beyond this, I served 2.5 decades in the US military and regularly served with Puerto Ricans. They were dedicated, loyal soldiers. As a chaplain I knew many Christian Puerto Rican families. They were so family oriented. I saw that as a huge strength.
I got to spend 3 months at a national guard facility on the island when we were training other nations for the Haiti mission that Clinton got us involved in. Having been to Hawaii and Puerto Rico, I’d rather visit PR than Hawaii. Lots of similarities, but in PR you aren’t 3000 miles from the rest of the world. Had some dynamite meals at some seaside restaurants in our area.
And FWIW, NO ONE makes a pork roast like a Puerto Rican wife for Sunday dinner. Crispy, tender, juicy...Thank you Sgt Melvin & Maria Rosario.

I go there on business for 4 days each January. It clearly reminds me what a wise move the wife & I made leaving there 8 years ago. Lakeland’s deterioration in that length of time is striking. But because it is gradual for those living there, most don’t even realize what they have lost.
I lived in Seminole County in the 60s. Seminole, Orange, Osceola are like a different country there now.
