Anatomy of a Power Grab (GOP-e Gets Nervous)
New York Slimes ^ | 8/5/2014 | Ross Douthat

Posted on 08/06/2014 4:19:35 PM PDT by mojito

Since my Sunday column was a little on the shrill side, accusing President Obama of contemplating domestic policy “caesarism” on immigration policy, I thought I’d do a follow-up addressing the various, “maybe you should calm down” objections.

1) How can you accuse the president of planning a power grab when we don’t even know what he’s planning to do?

Well, actually, we do know roughly what he’s considering, because White House sources keep telling the media about it. Read National Journal’s Major Garrett a month ago, or read the Washington Post on Saturday. The message is clear, the details consistent: Obama is considering a change to immigration policy that could ”enlarge … by a factor of 10″ the numbers involved in his 2012 deferred-action program for aliens who arrived illegally as minors, reshaping enforcement dramatically and affecting as many as “5 million illegal immigrants” overall. So pace Matt Yglesias, I’m not “preemptively slam[ming] the illegality” of an “as-yet-unknown measure.” I’m passing judgment on a known-but-not-implemented measure, which the White House keeps running up the flagpole to see who objects and who salutes.

Ross is one of the Slimes' house(broken) "conservatives." He's a beltway boy through and through, and what passes for a policy wonk in the world of GOP-e. Here we watch Ross argue with his lefty fascist friends who think that Barry should be dictator of...whatever...because...you know...Republicans.

And typical of GOP-e thinking, for many years Ross really thought that Barry was pretty swell, for the most part.

But now Ross has woken up somehow to the idea that Barry is a malevolent cancer on the republic. Ross doesn't like having to sound like a tea bagger though, but Barry has made him do it.

Not fair to compare Douthat, who at least is not afraid to use the word “constitutional” on a regular basis, with Obama toadies like David Brooks. The squealing over Douthat’s last column indicates that he hit the mark. I really don’t understand your point.

There are, yes, people on the right who are inclined to think that this president has been violating basic norms of constitutional government since the earliest months of his administration. I am not and have never been one of them, and I would decidedly prefer not to have to join their ranks at this late date.

That's my problem with your friend Ross.

So...your problem with this guy is not that he disagrees with you, but that he used to disagree with you. I see. You'd have been great during the American Revolution: Virtually no one would have passed your ideological purity test. Pretty much all the Founders were royalists at one time or another.

Yes, it's a “me” problem.

But somehow that fact that Ross really liked 0bama for six long years, and made excuses for him, kinda makes me think less of him. And not to trust him now. And to question his political acumen and understanding.

Sure Ross had to be dragged to the party kicking and screaming, and he still doesn't want to be here, or like having to associate with these lesser breeds who lack his polished beltway sophistication, but I should overlook all that and just let bygones be bygones and slap old Ross on the back.

Can't do it. He's a phony and a 0bama enabler.

But like I said, that's just a me problem.

Power grab?

The Congress has been acquiescencing since at least 2000.

Either by writing legislation favorable to White House or just not challenging them.

There ain’t no power grab.

We are in the middle of a coup and Congress is vesting the White House with ever more power, that is centralized and I guess eliminates them having to do any real work.

Wish I could get a job that paid $170,000 per year, with a lucrative expense account, bene’s and perks, so I could work 15-20 hours per week on average.

Maybe I could get paid for run on sentences too?

The 'Power Grab' has already occurredm, now the self-crowned prince wants to expand his power grab.

In an article earlier today , entitled:
'Proof - DHS 'partnered' with UN Migration Organization Before Engineering the Border Crisis'
It can be found at : ( / http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3189722/posts )

(article): " "In the October-November 2011 issue of Migration Policy Practice, the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced
that in March ( of 2011 - emphasis mine) it had ‘partnered’ with the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
SO , this was a DHS international migration planned through the UNITED NATIONS way back in March /2011 !!
DACA wasn't even discussed until 2012 by Obama, and implemented
On January 29, 2014 , ICE ( a division of DHS ) was advertizing FED.Gov.BIZ for "ESCORTS" for undocumented immigrant children .
This means this "Escort " service was planned ,funded , and implemented by our own DHS , who is responsible to the Executive Division, the president.
SO , this was a DHS international migration planned through the UNITED NATIONS, and funded through the Executive Division !!
Since this was planned before DACA...,it indicates the knowledge and funding from the Executive.
This demonstrates International subtrefuge to eliminate our SOUTHERN BORDER and violate our NATIONAL SOVERIGNTY !!

This is no crisis !! There is no border crisis !!
It is an internationally planned event by the U.N., aided , abbetted ,and funded by the Executive .. who knows nothing until he sees it on the news !
It is an International Cabal to eliminate our National Soverignty .

It is time to get out of the United Nations !
It is time to get the United nations out of the united States.

Douthat still disagrees with us. Ever heard the scripture, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:8)?
