never underestimate the ability of people to rationalize their entitlement
bump
One of our Founders pointed out the following:
‘The government cannot give to one American without first taking from another American’.
This truism should be reflected in both the headline and the content of the article. And this principle should be acknowledged in every political speech as well.
I have a friend who is not quite as astute as my FRiends here.
In response to my complaints of Federal overspending he said:
“The govt has a lot more money than they tell us about”
So, we have that going for us.
I haven't read the article, but I'm not sure I want to.
Blood pressure.
I'm sure they are lumping earned and paid for Social Security with the exploding number of SS permanent "disability" parasites which are in the process of bankrupting the once working Social Security System.
I can't stand reading once more the litany of Obamalies.
You forgot one critical detail, dishonestly so.
Increasingly, the "paid into" crowd pays two or three times, and the "gots" crowd never pay any money they have actually worked for!
That was Pastor Adrian Rogers who said that. Here’s his entire quote...
“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that, my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”
Here is the problem with your thinking on this:
“Programs that Americans paid into” are just taxes collected from them.
“Promise of a return on their investment” government is never an “investment”
“it’s not something for free” It is to people who get a check.
“the government hijacked the money” They spent the money - and then some. That’s what “investing” in government does.
Brilliant post.
“lumping earned and paid for Social Security”
That’s a good one. Tell us another knee-slapper!
“You forgot one critical detail, dishonestly so.”
I think you missed the posters sense of irony.
If you’re assigning “dishonesty” you should look to your government that has obviously convinced you that you were going to get “paid” and deserved it.
That’s how we end up writing $2T in checks every year.
Not only our names, the names of our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc.
Screw the grandkids, LET’S PARTY!
better than sending the money to Iraq
Of course, that is the dishonesty that is inherent in allowing the government to "invest" for you.
They got the headline wrong.
Americans Got $2 Trillion in Benefits from Other Americans in 2013
I hate these misstatements that continue to change people’s minds about how the money system works.
This is NOT the govenernment’s money. It belongs to taxpayers.
A better title should read “Government steals $2 trillion from taxpayers to pay transfer payments”.
I like the word transfer as it denotes what is actually happening.
The benefit to the progressive movement and Obama's socialist agenda for America is that when they rob Peter to pay Paul they gain control over both Peter and Paul.
