What Obama has to gain by being impeached
WND ^ | Drew Zahn

Posted on 07/28/2014 8:12:45 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

After one, first-hand look at the immigration crisis at the U.S. border with Mexico, U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, commented, “President Obama is begging to be impeached.”

It turns out, he’s not the only the congressman thinking the same thing.

As WND reported, Stockman theorized, “He wants us to impeach him now, before the midterm election because his senior advisers believe that is the only chance the Democratic Party has to avoid a major electoral defeat. Evidently Obama believes impeachment could motivate the Democratic Party base to come out and vote.”

Similar comments were made by former U.S. Rep. Ernest Istook, R-Okla., in an editorial in the Washington Times Friday, in which the now Heritage Foundation fellow argued, “Obama wants to be impeached.”

“President Obama insists on flirting with impeachment even as House Republican leaders insist there’s no such possibility,” Istook wrote. “Already operating beyond the constitutional bounds of presidential power, Mr. Obama’s strategy is to push the bounds further rather than pulling back. He dares political foes to make his day.”

Anybody who would vote Democrat in the upcoming election because they want to teach the Republicans a lesson for even talking about firing Obama is seriously stupid.

If that’s the Dem strategy then it’s doomed.

There will never be the votes in the Senate.
Even if Boehner had the stones to pursue it in the House.

This is such BS. Impeachment would influence independents and those in mushy middle to NOT vote democrat. It would also bring out the conservative base.

I am sick and tired of this wimpish defensive thinking - oh we can’t go after Obama or we will make them mad. Has Obama committed impeachable acts? Yes or no? The answer to that question should guide people to do their duty.

Stockman is correct. And none of the Repubs in Congress are falling for this trick.

After November, when there is a GOP majority in both houses; then we will look and see if impeachment is a viable option.

It shows that he reads FreeRepublic as I have postulated the same stuff over and over again several times in the past. Get the 67 votes! Then go for it!

This article is absolutely right. Only the White House (and Sarah Palin) are talking impeachment. The White House has nothing else to talk about. It is a failed Presidency and the whole Democrat party will suffer....unless the GOP falls for it. Sarah - I’m a fan; but let this issue go. Its hurting us and it is not feasible until after November.

Scalise was terrific on this issue with (closet lefty) Chris Wallace in Fox Sunday.

Stop talking impeachment. The brass ring is November by our getting the Senate. Won’t be the end all, but will allow us to manage judicial appointments and put legislation on Obama’s desk to further set up 2016.

I don’t think defunding works at this point either. We have to deal with the human crisis at the border. We don’t assimilate them; but we do need to treat them humanely until we can send them back.

Obama is picking a fight. The threat to allow thousands of the illegals to stay via Exec Order is him just trying to change the topic for November. He is trying to gin up impeachment talk. Nothing more. It is all politics for him. America is always a distant second to the One. We can’t fall for it.

Stay on strong border first and repeal Obamacare messages. Once we win in November, the fun begins.

There’s a pretty easy guideline as to what should be funded and what should not.

Hint: Article I, Section 8.

Speaker “Blank Check” Boehner keeps “Free for All” Obama in power by not controlling spending or Impeaching Obama.

“Gridlock” Reid shuts down the DEMOCRAT BROTHERHOOD GOVERNMENT, (DBG), anytime that Boehner refuses to write Obama a Blank Check.

“Free for All” Obama is more than happy to play hooky from his day job and fly around on the taxpayer’s dime to raise Campaign money for “Gridlock” Reid’s Senate Candidates, and the DBG.

“Blank Check” Boehner is the key man to allow “Free for All” Obama to continue to fundamentally transform America, and Obama knows it.

Force Boehner to resign, and Obama will be at the mercy of New Speaker Jim Jordan or Trey Gowdy.

Keep Boehner as Speaker and there is very little reason to expect Mid-Term Voters to find an effective difference between Republicans and Democrats.

fine

impeach him one week after the election

of course, by then the GOP will have lost the majority as the newly minted dems (via amnesty) will vote in the dem lock for 50+ years... and it won’t be possible

nice work, idiots.

here’s a thought: remove the ‘law’ put in place by clueless joe in 2008 that they’re using to push these illegals into the country

Also impeachment talk raises Dems election funds, that is why after Palin said what she did about it it is Democrats who keep talking impeachment, not Republicans. They send out fundraisers calling for mo $$$ to keep the Senate to avoid convection(it would take 2/3s anyway) .

They see impeachment as their secret weapon, so why would Obama worry about overeach

If Obama wants out, he can resign as Nixon did.

(from Wiki)

“During the presidency of George W. Bush, several American politicians sought to either investigate Bush for allegedly impeachable offenses, or to bring actual impeachment charges on the floor of the United States House of Representatives Judiciary Committee. The most significant of these efforts occurred on June 10, 2008, when Congressman Dennis Kucinich, along with co-sponsor Robert Wexler, introduced 35 articles of impeachment [1] against Bush to the U.S. House of Representatives.[2] The House voted 251 to 166 to refer the impeachment resolution to the Judiciary Committee on June 11, where no further action was taken on it.[3]”

I agree with Istook.

“Secure in the knowledge that impeachment is not the same as removal from office, Mr. Obama brings up the topic on his own and with bold defiance. Martyrdom goes well with a Messiah complex and Mr. Obama’s speeches are a non-stop litany of depicting himself as a victim of Republicans,” Istook continued, “Impeachment would be his crowning badge of victimhood, the ultimate symbol to rally his base, asking that they protect him by guaranteeing a Democrat majority in the U.S. Senate.”

If “O” would be impeached and removed... it's something he'd turn into a badge of honor.

He and MO would live off of it for the rest of their BS lives. They'd be making appearances, speeches...and other DNC hopefuls would grovel at his feet. He'd campaign for all of them and be the new ‘impeachment rock star’. Other Liberals would be courting impeachment themselves. American voters would positively eat it up!

Heck... the crucifix in your church would be changed to have “O’s” mug!!

Well that’s kind of the point. It’s really a no-risk strategy for the Dems. If there were a chance for conviction, even a remote one, I don’t think they’d have the stones to try the “let’s get Obama impeached” strategy. The fact that they know that Obama won’t be removed is why they’re looking in that direction to begin with.

The thing to remember is that impeachment and removal from office are not the same thing. If the House votes by simple majority to impeach the president (or any other federal official) then impeachment has occurred. It still requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate for removal from office. Think of impeachment as analogous to an indictment in the criminal justice system and removal from office as analogous to conviction.
